RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Shortly before ROTJ was released, there was the opportunity to get the Admiral Akbar figure as a special promotion through the mail. I got one and naturally assumed that he was evil, since he was "ugly".
I assumed that he would be a foreboding villain in ROTJ and when the film was finally released, I felt like a solipsistic jerkface for judging him by his looks. Since then, I always think of my favorite Mon Calamari whenever I come close to judging anything or anyone based simply on how they look.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Growing up, I had this older friend named Peter, who was, next to me, the biggest Star Wars buff in the neighborhood.
Peter used to give to give me all of the news on what he knew was going to happen in each episode. Because he was older than I, I assumed that the twit was telling the truth and never bothered to ask where he got his information. Amongst some of the more ridiculous things that he told me:
-Episode V was to be called "Landspeeders on the Crystal Moon"
-Darth Vader, under his mask was a reptile.
-Obi-Wan was a very cleverly desguised cyborg. (OB1, you see - it's a droid name)
-Chewbacca at human fetuses, much like pythons eat mouse fetuses.
-Episode VI would be called "Jabba the Hutt's Revenge"
-Boba Fett was Luke's father, who had faked his own death to kill Vader...who was a clone of him.
-Lobot would save the day, in the end.
I gave new meaning to the word "gullible"

I always thought the line in TESB was
"Where are we?" - Leia
"I know that system." - Han
"I know that system too, theres not much there." - Leia
It should have been
"Anoat system."
"Anoat system, theres no much there."
I thought Stormtroopers were robots.

I always thought when ob1's sabre in ANH wasn't done properly by ILM that his sabre had shorted out...BTW I love when all the stormtroopers go to watch ben and darth fight...I laughed so much...

"I know that system" that's great! I think I'll use "Anoat" instead of "I know that" from now on, in common speech, just to see if anyone every cathes an obscenely esoteric joke. ;c)

LOL! Great topic.
I always thought that Luke and Ben's sabre was the same, so I could never work out how Luke got hold of a sabre in ESB he he never got to Ben's cloak to pick it up.
I though the DSII was a rebuilt DSI.
I thought that the DSII was the first Star Destroyer you see in ROTJ, the one that flies over the camera.
I was very young.

When I was a kid, I thought that the Emperor in ESB was actually Obi-Wan Kenobi. It still sounds like Alec Guiness to me.
Lucas REALLY needs to replace that Emperor with Ian McDiarmid.

How about for TPM? the first time i saw it i thought Qui Gon's said, "You ruined my Scottish kilt," to Jar Jar. turns out it was, "You almost got us killed." Weird.

Forgive me for not reading through and maybe repeating this one, but...I think it's kinda unique.
I remember thinking that in RotJ when Luke cut off Vader's hand, his hand turned into Vader's so that if he cut off his other hand his hand would turn into Vader's, and if he cut off his head he would get Vader's head. Then I watched ESB when I could actually comprehend it (I think I had seen it once before then on like the USA network and my parents made me go to bed before the ending), and I made the connection.

I remember watching ROTJ and at the end feeling really sad that vader died just when luke was getting to know him. I felt that if luke hadent stoped to talk to him he would have saved him and they could have painted him white so he would be good (even though storm troopers were white
).

What a great thread!
Here's a few of mine:
I had no clue what Owen said when he said "there'll be hell to pay" I thought he just mumbled nonsense.
This one is odd.. I have no idea why we thought this, but my brother and I both thought that at the end of ROTJ when Vader died, that Luke left him there... then when you see the Death Star explode, you can see Vader's body in the explosion, and Luke found it after it fell to the ground on Endor and then burned it... weird huh? (If you look at the Death Star explosion in the Endor Sky perspective, you can see a black boomerang shaped piece near the lower right, that was it!)
How many people argued with friends over whether Episode VI was "Return" or "Revenge"? I remember a field trip where the whole busload of us kids argued about that the whole journey.
Also, we saw ESB before ANH, so we thought the Death Star was actually a star. (There was a pop song that said "There's a million stars in the sky" and we would laugh and say "Not anymore! Death Star blew up!")
kids are silly

The first episode I saw was TESB. I was about 5, 6 ,or something. I always thought Lando was a baddie. I fell asleep a little after Lando had betrayed Han & Crew.

I don't know if this is a repeat or not...
I always thought that Chewbacca made Ponda Baba's arm come off in the cantina. Because of Han's line about "wookies pulling peoples arms out of their sockets..." and so i see the bloody arm lying there on the floor, i put 2 + 2 together. (Ben pulling out his sabre in the cantina never even registered with me.)
