When TPM came out, I was completely confused that there was a Senator Palpatine. I kept asking my brother, "Isn't he the Emperor?" In my mind I was thinking he couldn't be a Senator if he was already the Emperor. (Obviously I had no sense of the time line!) Then, when he appeared as Darth Sidious, I was even more confused. Why was the guy that looked and dressed like the Emperor called Sidious? His name is Palpatine! I kept asking my brother, "But that's the Emperor, right?" I just couldn't put it together that Senator Palpatine BECAME the Emperor and his SITH NAME was Darth Sidious. What's more embarassing? I was 23 years old!!!

I thought that the Emperor was the "true Darth Vader" who "consumed" Anakin Skwyalker and gave him his name... or something like that.

Another misconception I had is that Return of the Jedi was superior to Empire Strikes Back

After seeing The EMpire Strikes Back SE in theatres, I didn't know that the originals were out on VHS. I didn't find out till later when I saw a special effects special in the IMAX theatre for a boy scout trip. My freind had to explain the whole original and special edition thing, cause I really didn't get it. This also cleared up my confusion as to how I got Star Wars toys for my birthday before the movies came out.

Luke: "You fought in the Clone Wars?"

I thought he meant Obi-Wan and others fought evil Jedi Clones of themselves! I was like WOW, Sweet Jedi Action!

Yeah I used to make that mistake as well.

I remember thinking that Luke could only use the froce when he was upside down.

The cave on Hoth.

The chair on Endor

THe rocks on Dagobah.

I used to think that Boba Fett knew/was related to Han. Specifically, I thought he was his brother. No clue as to why.

actually they do know each other because if you recall in ROTJ when han and chewie are trying to get away from the sarlacc pits chewie warns han that boba fett is behind him and then han says " Boba fett? Boba fett? Where?" then han turns and knocks Boba fett into the sarlacc pit.

I remember seeing ANH when I was four. The thing that struck me was the fact that the Rebels were firing red shots and the SD was firing green. I though it was wrong because Red=bad and green=good.

ROFLMAO i thought the same thing

It was weird, but I thought (for a short time, fortunately) that the Empire was unfairly beat up by the Rebels. I have no idea why I thought that. raised_brow

I really don't think I ever had any misconceptions about SW when I was little. I did used to get really freaked out by the whole "Luke vs. vader" on Dagobah thing tho, it took me a while to realise that it was Luke's face because I was way to scared to look at it happy

ya that scene confused and creeped me out at the same time. i always got the heebeegeebees when the face mask burns away and lukes face is there, i thought luke was vader for a long time. i was young tho.

Somehow I had the concepts of "lifesabers", "lifesavers" and "life perservers" all mixed up in my head. I thought the sword-type weapons were "lifesavers", the round things for saving drowning people were "lifesabers", and I couldn't figure out how candy played into it. I don't think I could even pronounce "perserver" at that point, but I was very confused when people would use any of those terms.

not calling you dumb but its spelled " preserver" ya know like the preservatives in food and i think everyone called them lifesavers lol still makes me laugh thinking about it

I just remembered this one. It's kind of weird, but I was pretty young.

In ESB when Luke is in the bacta tank--when he opens his eyes and then floats to the top of the tank, he kind of crosses his one leg under the other and makes a kind of "number 4" shape with is legs.

I remember actually thinking this was some important message he was trying to communicate to the others while in the tank. As if "4" was somehow really important and they had to know it right away. I actually asked my parents about it, "Why does he make the number 4 with his legs, mom?"

I think I actually obsessed over it a little, and finally decided there must have been 4 wampas out there and he only killed one of them. Good thing he used sign language to tell them that important info!

I remember I used to think Darth Vader and the stormtroopers were robots and one time I went to a friend's house during the time The Phantom Menace was released and he asked me if I wanted to watch episodes IV-VI and I couldn't understand how that was possible.
