RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I thought lightsabers were called "Jedis".
I thought Oola turned into that frog in Jabba's palace.
I thought they were worms in the Taun Taun's belly.
I thought that was Luke saying "goodmorning, nice of you guys to drop by" because it is said right after "Commander Skywalker do you copy?"
I thought Ben was using the same saber as Luke and Luke must have gotten it somehow with the force.
I thought that when after Vader releases that Imperial with the choke in ANH, that big orange button thing was inside him and he coughed it up. Weird.
I thought it was that "he doesn't like you" guy that loses an arm until a few years ago.

One of my only misconceptions, a line I still don't hear correctly, but force myself to hear right, is when Han says
"Don't worry, she'll hold together!"
I always tought after that he said "Shimmy baby cocoa leather" and I FINALLY figured out like 5 years ago that he says like "Didja hear me baby, hold together"
Also I didn't understand how Han's clothes change from Empire to Jedi (Still pondering that one), and the Jabba's Palace scene with the translating. Why Threepio talks in Basic to Jabba, not Huttese

Well, I'm barley 13 and the first time I saw Star Wars when I was 7.I thought lightsabers were called "life savers" I thought Darth Vader was called "Darf Vader".And when I saw the droids I thought "what in the world are those things?" and I thought "Jedi" was "Jed die"like telling someone to die.And when I was about 8 and saw Return of the Jedi.Luke and Leia were talking out on the Ewok porch and then Luke mentioned that he and Leia were twins. And I'm like "What in the world, they just kisses each other on the lips in ESB!" But I'm older and understand a whole lot more now.

Hi I'm new here, & this post is hella funny!
For some reason I remember thinking that Han & Leia were sister & brother, & Leia ends up with Luke.. weird huh?

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
OMG this is the best thread ever. Im laughing so hard I can't breath, and my eyes are watering. I've got a few of my own.
"It's your fathers 'lifesaver', It is the weaopon of a Jedi Knight. 'about as clumsy and random as a glass slipper'"
Vader was a lizard under the mask
I thought that the fleet of Star Destroyers could attach to the Super Star Destroyer and form a Death Star.
I thought if you pushed the right button on Darth Vaders chest his breathing machne would shut off and he would die.
When Vader unmasked in ROTJ I thought it was Uncle Fester from The Addams Family.
Jawas were Ewoks in disguise.
Boba Fett was Vaders best freind
I had a dream that when Luke became a jedi master his ears got long and pointy, and he turned green and started shrinking. Somehow I thought this was true about the jedi. All masters looked like Yoda.
Im sure theres more, but I can't remember.

First of all, I thought ANH was Return of the Jedi, because my dad told me the Death Star got blown up in that movie and I was to stupidly violence-sensitive to watch the first 7/8ths of the movie (dead jawas, flame-broiled Owen&Beru, Ponda Boba's arm, ect.)
My other misconceptions:
-Han Solo, ROTJ: "Delusions of Rancer" (?)
-Dark Vader
-I didn't want to believe "dark" Vader was Luke's father. I cried when I saw that scene...
-I always thought that Imperial dude on the Death Star 1 coughed up an egg after Vader tried to choke him.
-I thought Palpatine's title was "the Empire" and that Darth Vader was titled "the Emperor"

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
My first memory of Star Wars was the Ewoks! How mundane! I also used to think that stormtroopers were robots (not droids, I didn't know that word yet). It's kind of funny how we STILL aren't certain what strormtroopers actually are.
Oh, and I always got Admiral Piett and Captain Needa mixed up (I must have spaced out at the part where he says "get a shuttle ready...") So imagaine my surprise everytime Admiral Piett was onscreen, "Didn't Vader just kill that guy?"
Plus, I saw ROTJ about three times before I ever saw ANH or ESB, so I never had any earth-shattering surprises, ("I am your father!" Duh!) ROTJ was my favorite for a long time too, then I grew up

Well, my mom wasn't a fan so she rented them out of order...I saw ROTJ before ESB, so I had NO idea what was going on in Jedi.
I thought lightsabers were turned on with the Force...I couldn't figure out how Han used it in ESB.
I thought Han was Luke's father.
When reading Heir to the Empire for the first time, I had no idea who Mon Mothma was, so I ended up imagining her as a giant moth!
And while it's not a misconception so to speak, I remember sitting in the backyard, sticking my hand at a rock and trying to move it with my mind. I'd actually keep that up for a good hour straight. I was a weird kid

Yeah, I always thought Obi-Wan in ANH said he heard "a thousand oysters cry out", I didnt get that for years.
Also I never understood why leia said "Arent you a little short for a storm trooper" when Luke came to rescue her. I just thought she was trying to be defiant and insult her captors. It took years for me to realize that they were all clones, and then to figure out what exactly a clone was.
And i always tried to use the force to move stuff around the house after seeing ESB. Especially when the remote for the T.V. was across the room and I didnt feel like getting up to go get it. That prompted a lot of "What the hell are you doing?"s from my older brothers. good times.

Hahahahaha!!! these are great! I didn't see the movies until I was 12 or 13. So when my sister got some weird little picture cube toy thing from a fast food place, (she hadn't seen them either) I saw a picture of the Wampa, and the words Return of the Jedi. So, since I knew most of the others in the pictures were human, (Even I knew who Vader was) I figured that by process of elimination, the Wampa had to be the "Jedi" that was returning to take over the universe. Gosh, I was a messed up kid!!! Also, I saw the part of ESB at my former babysitter's house where Luke goes in the cave and kills Vader/himself, and thought he'd killed the evil guy, so now it's over, right?

The only misconception I can actually remember was thinking Darth Vader was Dark Vader.
