RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
When I first saw ANH I missed the part where Wedge gets hit and only saw the "Sorry!" as he pulls out of the Trench.I was like "What wuss."
In ESB,I thought they promoted Luke to Gold-Leader because he blew up the Death Star.
When I first saw ROTJ,and Luke says Leia's his sister,I was like "Moron.Of course she's not his sister!A guy wouldn't french his sister!"

When I was really young I thought that Chewie was an Ewok. I figured he was just really overgrown or genetically altered or something and that's why he left the tribe.

I used to think "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" meant A LONG TIME AGO and not in the future's a long time ago, so I thought as a kid, I had a chance of meeting Luke someday.

Along with a bunch of things already mentioned and some mispronunciations, I remember calling the Emperor the Empire.

It took me a long time to watch Empire Strikes Back from beginning to end when I was like 6. When Han Solo frozen in carbonite the movie was over for me. Without watching the end I used to think Obi-Wan was Luke's father.
I thought the Stormtroopers were droids.
I used to wonder how Vader got a new head in the scene after Luke fought the image of him on Dagobah.
In the scene were Lando tells them Vader is using them for bait to capture Luke. As they pick Han up and it pans to the next with Vader. I used to think Han was broken in two from the guard hitting him in the back.

These are my misconceptions:
1. I thought Darth Vader was actually called "Dark Vader."
2. When Vader and Luke "fought" on Degobah, I thought Luke had actually killed him.
3. The first time I saw TESB, I didn't know that Han was frozen in carbonite. When I saw the stormtroopers carrying the case, I just thought it was someone who was trapped in part of the floor- LOL!
4. I didn't know that Episode IV was called "A New Hope." I thought it was just Star Wars.
And last, but not least (get ready to laugh)...
5. I thought Jabba the Hut was a giant muffin. LOL!

I thought, for a while too, that the clone wars was going to be clones of the Jedi. So I thought that Obi-wan would fight himslf and so on.

I always thought that when Princess Leia finds out that Tarkin is behind the Death Star that she says, "Governor Tak, I knew it was you holding Vada's leash, I recognized you foul stench since I was bought in bored"

I first saw Star Wars on TV. A short while afterwards I remember hearing part of the news talking about the latest news on the star wars program or something, which obviously referred to the missile defence system, but I thought it meant the program called Star Wars that was on the other day. I then concluded that if it was on the news it must be real, which only added to its appeal. God, I was a messed up kid, lol.

Interesting thread:
The only childhood misconception I can remember is that when C3P0 was on Tatooine calling for help, I thought it was because he was scared of the huge skeleton behind him.
And I didn't quite understand the whole Vader choking the dude with the force in
A New Hope
. I thought his shirt collar was too tight or something odd like that. That scene pretty much went right over my head as a kid!

Another one I've remembered:
I thought that anybody getting hit by a lightsaber would disappear like Ben did in
A New Hope
. In
The Empire Strikes Back
, I couldn't figure out why Luke merely lost a hand instead of completely evaporating!

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I remember that I was very confused about much of the movies - I saw them all out of order. I saw ROTJ when I was 6 and then ANH, and then it took me years to see the entire ESB!
I remember that I thought "DarK Vader" could make people talk by choking them. In the scene where he holds the soldier up choking him, I thought that he was making the subject talk through his mind when really it's the stormtrooper reporting info to Vader. I was always confused about that.
I never understood the cave scene until I was older.
I remember seeing ROTJ in the movie theater and being scared to death of the emperor shocking Luke. I thought it was real and I covered my eyes and cried! I remember I had a crush on Luke after seeing the movie. Funny, now I have a crush on Anakin (rather Hayden)!
I remember loving the Ewoks. I had a stuffed Ewok. Now, I fast-forward through those parts.
I thought the Emperor was Vader's father.
I'm sure there is more, but can't remember.
This board is great!
