RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I first saw STAR WARS when I was 14, but my English were not so good then and I misread many lines
I didn't know 3PO's and R2's names
BOba Fed (what?)
Dantooine and Tatoine were the same thing
Chewbacca and Chewie were two different persons
My friends said that there were a total of 6 episodes and that Darth Vader was Luke's father. So when Vader said that I was going "Yes, he is, believe him!
what's A New Hope got to do with STAR WARS?
Who makes that noise (Vader's breathing)?
Vader was superior because of that triangular thing in front of his mask. This wasn't so big in stormtroopers' helmet. When you got a promotion, you also get a new helmet with a bigger thingy, until you got a helmet like Vader's

I thought that Darth Vader was Death Vader, and I also thought that SW and star trek were the same thing. (horrors!!!)

My misconceptions:
! Stormtroopers are robots.
! C-3PO and R2-D2 are REAL manufactured droids
! Chewie is a Yeti who got his hair sprayed brown
(saw a documentary about the making of Star Wars when I was 5 or 6 where they showed the make up artists preparing Mayhews costume)

I thought it was Hand Solo too
Other misconceptions (like many other people):
Lightsaver
Dark Vader
Storm Troopers were droids
The Death Star in ROTJ was the half blown up one from ANH.
I also thought Yoda was once human and was just short and green because he was so old.
The whole Dagobah cave thing just confused the hell out of me.
I didn't realize the Tusken Raiders wore masks...I thought that's what their faces looked like, and I wasn't sure if they were droids or aliens.
I know there were more...I'll think of them and post them later.

I thought for 10 years until I read the novelization, that in ANH when Obi-Wan rescues Luke from the Tusken Raiders, he said:
"A gentleman wastes enough to be traveled, likely."
That was confusing to me.
This one wasn't a misconception, but when Han says "Fast ship, you never heard of the Millenium Falcon?", it sounds like he says "Fast Chip."

come to think of it now, I did think that C-3PO and R2-D2 were the main characters of the movie, unwinded! I was always a little upset when they didn't as much screen time as everybody else.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I wasn't sure if the Death Star was destroyed in ANH or if the gang just escaped and it was destroyed in the beginning of ESB, or maybe it was the same Death Star in RotJ.
I used to think that the "sabers-melting-together" scene from Spaceballs was in SW, I even asked my parents when that scene was coming up (I obviously hadn't seen the movies a lot at this time).
I was convinced that it WASN'T Boba Fett who fell into the Sarlacc when it burped...
And I could have SWORN that the line "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber...
you no longer use mine
." was spoken in RotJ by Vader. A cool line, eh?

Ahh...I remember it like yesterday... I woke up sick, missing a day of school. I decide to find a tape to watch and stumble upon a generic tape with a plain white sticker reading "Star Wars"... so I pop it in. My first impression? "Wow...this is awesome...I have got to see the first 3!"

here's one for EP2:
when Padme says "It must be hard having sworn your oath to the Jedi." I always here Loaf instead. So this is like Anakin made a loaf of bread and gave it to the Jedi councel.
wierd, anyone else notices how the oath is sort of like Loaf?

I always thought that the Emperor was Vader's father, and thusly Luke's grandpa. Of course, a much younger and cuter Kizakh wouldn't have used the word "thusly"...
