RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
When I was a kid "Star Wars" was called "The race to the moon."
ANH was still 4 years away when I turned 18 :-)
... and yes Nurf balls are older that SW and so are Frisbees, Hulla Hoops and Play Dough and homemade skate boards.
Video Games,
very
early PCs and Disco are about the same age.
MTV, Rap and Cell Phones came later.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
Let's see.....
I thought that
Ben hadn't gone by the name Obi-Wan since before Luke was born
When Obi-Wan met Anakin, he was already a great star pilot, but Ben was amazed at how strong the force was in him
Yoda trained Obi-Wan
Han fired at Greedo first
Ben had no idea who R2 and 3P0 were
Anakin wanted Luke to have his lightsaber when he was older
Leia had memories of her real mother
The force was an energy field that bound the universe together
All Jedi disappeared when they died and then came back as ghosts
Owen blamed Obi-Wan for Anakin, who followed him on a "damned fool idealtistic crusade."
Darth was part of Anakin's "new" name, since Obi-Wan called him Darth
It only took 3-4 years to build a Death Star

When Luke falls down in the rancorpit and everybodys looking down on him there's a close-up on a jawa. When I was kid I thought that was artoo in disguise. Reason: the jawas eyes were so obviously fake I thought, and his body looks a bit stiff.

Darth Vader = Dark Vader
Lightsaber = Lightsaver
(I didn't read all the other pages, so I don't know if anyone else did this.)
After seeing ESB, and after that whole "I -am- your father!" scene, I yelled at all my friends if they said Luke Skywalker, instead of Luke Vader.
In ESB, I got Leia's line "well obviously you don't know much about women" mixed up with.. "well obviously you don't know much about we men." Everything in SW confused me, so I figured maybe Leia really -was- a guy... Leia then walks over to Luke and kisses him, and Luke liked it!
Well.. that thought didn't stick to me very long.

Oh man, where should I start, from age two to age 12 i thought all kinds of dumb things about star wars, none of what you are about to read will make any sense at all.
In the early 90's when I was a little tyke, i thought at first that Darth Vader was a robot and that his name was "Dark Invader" since he wears a dark suit and invadees Leia's ship, plus there was no such thing as a "darth".
I also thought that the Emperor was Dr. Robotnick from the old Sonic Cartoon (which is a totally different storyline form the sonic games) and that he used a machine to transform people into robots, which were the stormtroopers, and that Darth Vader was controled by Palpy by a remote control to command the other robots, and that in ANH, the needle the Torture droid had was going to make Leia turn into a robot. Oh, and let me also mention that the Emperor was also Dr. Claw from inspecor gadget somehow.
Oh, and the Death Star was the home planet of the "bad guys", which Palpy had transformed into a "robot planet".
Oh, and in ESB, when Obi Wan says "A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine...", that led me to beleive that Darth and Vader were the guy's first and last name. I thought lightsabers were lifesavers, or lightsavers.
Uncle Owne's moisture farm was hit by a nuclear bomb, Princess Leia hid donuts on the side of her hair, that Darth Vader wore the mask and helmet so that Obi Wan couldnt find him, and that he was actually running away from Obi Wan. I also thought that the empire was a rouge group trying to overthrow the Rebels who were really in charge.
I thought that all people dissapeared when hit by lightsabers, even yoda's death didnt clear this up for me, and i didnt realise what actually happened until i read this thread.
At one point I was under the impression that Darth Vader was the ressurected body of Hitler, and that the empire were Nazis.
Jabba the Hutt was "the viking guy", and they was an entire army of "Bobba Fetts".
The Clone Wars were when aliens cloned everybody in the universe and the real people and the clones fought eachother. I thought that Darth Vader could survive without the suit, which stuck with me until i saw Episode III.
Darth Vader died in ANH, and the Emperor built a new one since he was a robot. When Darth Vader told luke he was his father, that that ment that luke was also a robot and didnt know, thats why he was screaming. Darth Vader was a good robot that was reprogrammed by Palpy to be evil.
Darth Vader was a voodoo priest (due to mask)That vader's breathing was loud because his mask had a megaphone in it to carry out his voice because he had a big ego and wanted everybody to hear him
Emperor Palpatine was being held hostage by Darth Vader, thats why he kept begging luke to strike down vader and laughed when luke attacked vader because he wanted his kidnapper to die.
That Alderaan was Earth.
At the Battle of Hoth, the At-At walkers belonged to the Rebels, but had been reprogrammed by Palpy to stomp all over the rebel's base, thats why they had to make them fall over with the tow cable.
At-St's were Chicken Robots.
C-3PO was a night in shining armor.
The Death Star belonged to the Rebels, Darth Vader wanted the plans so he could build his own, after R2-D2 ran off with the plans, Vader decided to take over the Rebel's death star and use it as his own base.
Darth Vader wanted the Falcon because Han stole it from him, or that Vader just wanted it because it was a faster ship than his own.
I couldnt understand why Star Destroyers could destroy stars, but but planets, and why the much bigger Death Star could destroy planets, but not stars.
I thought that ANH, when Obi Wan used the mind trick on the storm troopers, when he waved his hand, he actually slipped bribe money into the stormtroopers hand and didnt use any mind control.
Emperor Palpatine and Obi Wan were two of the Biblical three wise men.
R2D2 and C-3P0 werent allowed into the mos isley cantina because they were underage.
Lando was Han's father.
Han died in ESB (carbonite)
in the beginning of ROTJ, Leia used a mini version of Palpatine's alledged "robot transformation machine" to turn the dead body of Han into a robot (the carbonite was some kind of coffin), then upload the robot's mind into a compuer, which she then re downloaded into a robot she had made in the shape of Han Solo, so that he would be reborn as a robot version of himself.
Star Wars was named after the Death Star.
"millions of oysters crying in terror", it did look like a water filled planet when they showed alderaan.
"almost feel the remote" in ANH ment feel the distant, and that the training device was supposed to be a model of the Death Star.
Emperor Palpy built an "evils suit" with a mind control helmet, he tricked Anakin Skywalker into putting on the suit, which transformed him into Darth Vader. When luke sliced his mechanical hand off, it caused the mind control chip to malfunction and free anakin long enough for him to throw Palpy down the reactor core.
The suit was burned so that nobody could repair the suit and create another darth vader.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
As a kid I thought that...
...Obi-Wan Kenobi's name was Obi-One (I thought this for YEARS!)
..."the other" Yoda spoke of had to be Han Solo (because girls could not be Jedi)
...Vader listened to the Emperor because that was his father
...I thought Leia was like, THE princess of the entire galaxy, not just one planet
...Chewbacca was Han Solo's pet
...Han Solo's ship was called the "Million Falcon"
...Tatooine must get really cold at nighttime and that is why they lived in an igloo
...The Empire Strikes Back took place one day following the events of A New Hope, and Return of the Jedi begins the next day after Empire.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I used to call lightsabers LIFESAVERS. When I would tell a family member about my Darth Vader figure that I got for Christmas, I would say he has a lifesaver. And they would say...HE HAS CANDY TOO? Pretty strange, huh?
I also thought that Chewbacca was Bigfoot. PRETTY COOL MISCONCEPTION! Hey...he looked like it! Reminded me of the one in the TV series THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN.
Called the Wampa in ESB a Yeti.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
One of the biggest ones I had was regarding continuity of the three films. I couldn't quite comprehend the fact that they were episodes 4, 5 and 6 respectively, and I could nary remember which movie was which episode. So for instance, if I watched Empire, I would occasionally think it was the first of the series, thinking it had the lowest episode number. Then I'd be confused when I watched ANH, because Han was frozen in the first episode, and suddenly he's back and everybody is getting introduced for the first time. The episode numbers really screwed me up, because I used to think it went episode 4 6 and 8 for whatever reason.
I also used to think Darth Vader's name was Dark Invader. I also thought that the movies took place far in the future, not far in the past in another part of the galaxy (my young mind couldn't comprehend the idea of humans living in another part of the galaxy- fiction or not)
Also, I could never get the droid designations right- C-P30 or PC-3D or R2-PD. ANd I used to think that the Death Star was called the Star Destroyer.
I'm sure I made plenty of more mistakes. Those stand out in my mind the most though.
