I used to think the order in the saga was ANH, ROTJ, TESB. The only reason for that was because that was the order in which I saw them. So when I got the Special Edition and they say TESB is the second installment in the Star Wars Trilogy, I was basically thinking, "What the heck? They got the order of their own trilogy wrong!"

The big misconceptions came from ANH. One being that I thought Han Solo was secretly invincible. When Greedo shot him, Han was untouched, yet Greedo fell over dead. That means that whoever fights him, they can't win because they'll die if they shoot him!

I also thought that lightsabers (or as I thought, "lightsavers") had some type of great mystical power. If you say something, the lightsaber will do exactly that. Keep in mind that I used to have a little bit of trouble understanding Darth Vader. So when he said "You should not'a come back", and he struck down Obi-Wan (who did not'a come back), I instantly jumped to the conclusion that lightsabers could do whatever you wanted them to do as long as you beat your enemy.

Then in TESB, I thought Han took Luke's lightsaber and kept it after cutting open the Taun Taun. Then I thought that the Vader in the magic tree was the real Darth Vader, and Darth Vader just simply respawned on the Star Destroyer. After all, TESB came after ROTJ and Darth Vader died in ROTJ, so Darth Vader just respawned to make it into one more movie.

Oh boy, I LOVE your post so I don't want to sound too critical, but this makes the Empire sounds like they are some deviant group of Cabaret actors.

In ESB, when general Veers is speaking to the small hollogram of Vader in the AT-AT, I thought he said:

"... the shield will down in moments. You may start your BUNTING."

As a kid, I was like "what the hell does bunting mean?" Is that military talk?

I still am not entirely sure what he really said.

I don't remeber a lot of my misconceptions but I know there was a bunch. I thought Obi-Wan was spelled O-B-1 (like C-3P0 or R2D2). I also remember thinking that the force was real. I'd randomly try to pull my spoon across the breakfast table using the force like Luke did with his "life-saver" on Bespin. (i used to think that too). There was also a transport ship in ESB that I though was an upside-down boat hull converted to a ship. Stuff like that.

When Han Solo said (in ANH), "We're coming up on their sentry ships", I thought he said "We're coming up on their CENTURY ships."

It made sense to me. After all, Han Solo was piloting the MILLENNIUM Falcon, so of course there were "century" ships in the SW universe too.

What he really said was, "You may start your LANDING."

'Cause in order for Vader to invade Hoth, he had to land there, ya see.

I thought that ANH, when Obi Wan used the mind trick on the storm troopers, when he waved his hand, he actually slipped bribe money into the stormtroopers hand and didnt use any mind control.

When I was young I always thought a lightsaber was a lightsaver. This one seems to be quite common on these boards.

When I was young I thought that...

-The Death Star in ROTJ is the same as in ANH, it was just damaged from the first attack.
-Obi-Wan used Anakin's lightsaber. I never had the idea that he had his own.
-The s-foils of the x-wings could rotate around the long axix of the ship.

Of course, now I know better...

Before I had ever watched the movies, my family had all gone on the SW ride in DisneyLand. I remember waiting in line and seeing C-3PO and R2 D2. Of course, at the time with me being this puny little kid, I just saw 3PO as this freaky golden thing with glowing eyes in the dark. I ended up being scared of him until I finally watched the movies!

The person who said they thought Leia said "Dat one. They're on dat one." is officially the coolest person ever.

Anyway, I thought it was Lightsaver, and I thought that the X-Wings were always in X postition, I never really remembered seeing the wings flat.

I used to think Stormtroopers were robots, but only after playing an old SW game called Rebel Alliance 2 (?) where you dressed up as a Stormtrooper and went around shooting people, the visor thing made it look all robot-y.

I also forgot the ending of TESB for about three years, as the last time I had watched it, I fell asleep after Luke jumped.

Going back a bit, but it is "nerf-herder" that Leia says in TESB. From the Star Wars Encyclopedia by Stephen J Sansweet:

A rangy, supple creature with curving, dull horns and long, rank fur that covers its muscular body, this domesticated herbivore is temperamental and cantankerous, foul-smelling and apt to spit at its handlers, the nerf herders. If nerf meat weren't delicious, it's doubtful anyone would bother raising the animals, even though their pelts are used for a variety of purposes.

Nerfs are also mentioned in the Illustrated Star Wars Universe in the chapter on Alderaan.

I have'nt read any of the other pages yet, so I don't know if this has been mentioned yet. But the main thing I always believed as a kid was that Vader's head was roughly shaped like a skeleton (ala Skeletor from He-Man, or Red Skull from Captain America). Hence the reason for his helmet's shape.

Little did I know that what was really under that helmet was much more terrifying than I had imagined.

I also thought that Chewie was an actual person in real life, not just some really tall guy in a furry suit. I was further convinced when he was a guest star on Oprah about a decade ago, along with C-3P0, Vader, and R2-D2. (Hey, I'm only 15)

And when I was REALLY small, I thought Luke, Han, Leia, and Ben were all family members. (Luke, Han, and Leia as brothers. Ben as the father)
