The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
1. In ROTJ I thought that every time Luke cut off a part of Vader, it became part of Luke, and that that must have been how Vader got his suit in the beginning.
2. Never understood that Luke wanted to kill the emperor in ROTJ.
3. In AHN I thought Tarkin said: "You're far too trusty" rather than: "You're far too trusting" And in my 8 year old head decided that "trusty" meant untrustworthy, and that Tarkin was blowing up Alderaan because he didn't believe Leia.
4. Could not figure out for the life of me, why the sand people ran away when Obi-Wan showed up. Not until I read the book...
5. Never put 2 & 2 together that Vader was Leia's father too.
And after seeing ROTJ, I am still to this day: Afraid to look behind me while riding my bicycle.
Be Excellent to each other, and Party on dude!
May The Force be with you,

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
In ESB when Luke was training with Yoda. Yoda would instruct Luke to saty away from the Dark side of the Force. I alway thought he was saying Forest, I mean, look where they were training. The the scene would move to the Vader and Palpatine talking,"If we can turn him to the Dark side of the Forest...." Then Luke walking down the Dark Forest only to fight Vader. It made so much sence.
Glad to know someone else did this too! After figuring out what really happened, I remember thinking that the Dark Forest was really much more logical, and my eight year old self was ready to write Lucas and complain.

Between ANH and ESB, I thought that Star Destroyers were called 'galactic warships'.
After seeing ESB at age 11, based on my own experience with parents, I convinced my whole school that Vader couldn't be Luke's Dad; in
my
experience, parents didn't go around cutting their sons hands off.
So with four words, "
Your father he is.
", Yoda vaporised my generally accepted position as the foremost SW expert in my school of 700 kids.

When I was a kid all I wanted was a red lightsaber. I thought my dad could just "build me one."

I had some wierd 6 year old's notion that Luke actually
gets
Vader's hand after he cuts it off in ROTJ. Like it somehow magically becomes grafted onto his arm in place of his own cybernetic hand. and that's what makes him a Jedi? something like that.
don't ask me how that works. but that's what i thought until i was maybe 8 when a kid I knew told me I didn't know what I was talking about.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
I definitely thought that Ben's lightsaber was broken a few times (like a real sword) during the fight with Vader.
I also used to think the Millennium Falcon was destroyed at the end of RotJ. It was only until I read the books (when I was 12) that I believed otherwise.
I thought that Ben's ghost was a hologram 'cause he was blue and shiny.
I also had this weird notion that Salacious Crumb bit Jabba's tail at one point. I wish that actually had happened 'cause that would be pretty sweet.
I also thought that Boba Fett was in love with Vader because he said "As you wish" (which means "I love you" according to the Princess Bride, for you deprived people)
I know there are more, but that's all I can remember right now.

RE: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.
This is a good thread which compelled me to register so I could contribute...
I'm almost 33 now, so I've seen every movie in theathers. Although I cannot recall ANH very well.
Being an Air Force brat, I remember living on a base in Pensacola when my next door neighbor having saw ESB before me, told me that everyone dies in this one. I was horrified, but relieved after actually seeing the movie.
When ROTJ came out, we were living in Alaska and I remember being jealous that my cousin in Tampa could see the movie a full 3 months before I could. The base theather always got movies late up there. ;-)
In ROTJ, when Leia and Wicket are interrupted on Endor by a Biker Scout, I thought Wicket exclaimed "EatYourMomma!". Don't ask me why. *shurgs*

Well, I was one of many, I'm sure, who thought the word lightsaber was "life-saver".
And, for some reason, I thought Han shot Greedo before Greedo could fire his gun. Weird.

I'm too old to be a child when I began, but still have some misconceptions
In ROTJ, I used to think Ackbar is upset when SSD shot down because that A-Wing pilot is his friend

I dont know if Im repeating someone else, but when I was little I didnt understand why Luke saw his own face in the Vader helmet on dagobah. But I was so enthralled it was a minor detain I guess lol.

Well when I saw ESB I thought when they cut Luke’s hand off that they had to cut Mark Hamill’s hand off and then put a fake one on Mark. It just amazed me that he would let them cut his hand off for real. For the longest time I thought Mark had a fake hand in real life.

I had to sign up just to reply to this.
When i was at school 10 years or so back. i was SURE that a B-wing was what actually is a imperial shuttle. A y-wing was actually what a b-wing is and a z-wing was actually the Y-wing.
