I remember my Dad telling me how Ben and Anakin fought togethor in the Clone Wars. But i got confused and thought he ment Anakin and Luke, which begs to differ why Luke wouldnt know anything about him... lol

When Luke rescues Leia there is a shot of her lying on the bed,
there is nothing else in the shot to establish scale,
so therefore I assumed the interrogation droid had shrunk her and when she got up and was normal size I assumed it was the prison room that had shrunk her!

For some bizzare reason, when i was little, i always thought Lando's name was pronounced Class-a-rare-ian and not Calrissian.... :S

For a very long time I was completely sure that the stormtroopers are droids. And that Vader is the same person as the Emperor (before I actually saw the Emperor). I just couldn't understand who they can be talking about with such fear, when it was Vader who was the most frightening character...

I always thought then when Vader choked that guy out during the meeting about dissolving the senate...that the yellow button that appears by his mouth when his head collapses to the table...was puke.
Why I thought this...who knows...if you watch it looks like it came out of ihis mouth.

I always thought Old Ben said, "A gentlemen's wastes are not to be travelled lightly," which, of course, didn't make much sense...but then, I was young.

oh wow I saw Star Wars when I was young, so I have quite a few of these...

1. First of all, I thought all of it really happened, due to seeing 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away' on the screen before the movie.

2. I thought Darth Vader wore the suit just because he thought it was cool-looking.

3. I thought Chewbacca was big foot.

4. I also thought lightsabers were 'lifesavers'.

5. And, I also remember telling my older brother, "Teddy bears can't walk!"

I'm sure there are many more, but those are the first to come to mind.

I was one of those who thought the Stormtroopers were robots. How'd Luke and Han get inside them? Duh...they gutted the shells.

"Lifesavers" for Lightsabers.

I thought Darth Vader was best friends with Dr. Doom from Fantastic Four.

Yes, this thread delivers.

I thought Darth Vader was Dark Vader. He was dressed in black, made sense to me. When Yoda tells Luke "there is another Sky-walk-er" I always thought he was just choking and then died. I was almost 20 years old before I ever figured out he was saying Skywalker.

This is a great thread! Fortunately I was already ten in 1977, and in high school when ESB and ROTJ came out. But Idid have some misconceptions:

1. I saw SW/ANH somewhat late i nthe game, winter 77. By this time t-shirts and posters were everywhere. I assumed it was a war between humans and robots, so that Vader (who I naturally assumed was a robot), C3PO and R2 were on the same side, as were the storm-troopers (who were obvoiusly also robots).

2. I had no clue what the Clone wars were, excpet that OB1 fought in them. No clue that there even were other Jedi, and that they fought in them too. And I had no idea what a even clone was (the scientific term). Don't remember if I even understood that he was saying clone, might have understood 'clode' or 'clobe'. Thought it was the planet/system where the war took place, in any event.

I thought Jabba and the big pile of leaves/garbage that talked to the Fraggles were one in the same.

I was too young to understand the concept of hologram-communication, therefore I thought once-again that Leia had been shrunk and that In ROTJ Luke was ALREADY in Jabbas palace,
so when he walked in later i was very confused.

I thought that leia had been shrunk in the prison cell because her bed looks like a shelf, because there are no blankets or sheets.plus the fact that there is nothing else to establish scale,

This is not entirely in keeping with the 'Man was I an idiot when I was a kid' theme of the previous posts, but one thing that also occurred to me is that when I first saw SW/ANH, the entire concept of the Emporer was totally vague. Knew nothing about him, certainly not that he was a Sith/force user. To me, he was just some bad guy with a crown.
