LOL! One of my friends mentioned that to me after he read the post. Really though, I thought he was black. Nothing against pasty white guys.

When i was little and I saw ANH for the first time on t.v. When Vader was out there with his wing men taking down the Rebels,I thought the black troopers were his babies and he was the mom for some weird reason lol. I didnt really get the idea of ranks and such or that they were even serving him. :P

OK, I was all of three and a half when ANH came out, but bright and very aware of what was going on. I remember wanting a lightsaber, but I knew that if I asked my parents they'd buy me a TOY lightsaber, which I didn't want at all. Having read books and been read to since I could remember, I knew that the movie was all pretend and that lightsabers didn't actually cut off anyone's arms, etc. However, I REALLY wanted a lightsaber like the ones the actors had.

Now my conception of what the lightsaber actually was is the misconception. I remember sitting in the theater figuring this out the second time I saw the movie. I thought it was a glowing, humming something that they had put together for the actors to use in the movie. THAT'S what I wanted. Whatever it was they had rigged up for the actors, not a TOY! I have since figured out that I must have gotten this idea from observing those long lightbulbs they have in stores. After all, they glow, hum, flicker, and sometimes, go out completely.

The other thing I could never understand was why Vader didn't know or understand why Obi-Wan would become more powerful if he was struck down, especially after ROTJ. The way it's presented, it seems like it's a Jedi thing that he should have known about. ROTS and The Last of the Jedi books have answered that.

Hi there,

Been coming on here for couple of years now but never decided to post until now... what a great thread...

I remember when I was a kid watching ESB Darth Vader says to Luke "Release your anger".. So for a while I thought a lightsabre was called an 'anger'!

When I saw ESB I was 8 years old. When the movie ended, I didn't understand the meaning/concept of a sequel. I cried when my mom told me I had to wait a few more years for another movie to come out so I could see what happened to Han Solo. It was tramatic

What little misconceptions did you have when you were a kid watching Star Wars?

Hmmm...well, keeping in mind that I was a year-and-a-half old when ANH was first released, and thus my understanding of the movies was pretty limited beyond "Oooooh, pretty!" until I was quite a bit older...

- I thought Obi-Wan and Leia were Luke's mom and dad.
- I was pretty sure his name was "Obi-One". Not sure how I didn't think it was "OB-1", but, hey...
- I was convinced Tarkin was in ESB. Somewhere.
- I thought Darth Vader was god becuase they called him 'lord'.
- I thought Boba Fett was Darth Vader's son.

That's all I can remember right now. Needless to say, as a child I had some prety wacky notions about Star Wars. But long exposure to the series and, you know, growing up about twenty-eight years or so will certainly clear a few things up, neh? happy

^_^ I was exposed to the movies at an early age, but, luckily for me, I had an older sister who straightened out many of my misconceptions.

The only ones I still remember are:

I was so confused during the RotJ-- why was Luke burning Vader? What--did he want to kill him or something?

And, for the longest time, I though Sy Snootles was actually Sny Slootles. Go figure.

I was about the same age as you when it was released, and I seem remember something like that from the Kenner toys from back in the day. Didn't the package used to title the characters like this:

Obi-Wan (OB1) Kenobi
Artoo-Deetoo (R2-D2)
See-Threepio (C-3PO)

?

3. I thought that 'Bantha Poodoo' was Bantha poo-poo. Even the subtitles didn't help that one. How many 10yr olds know that fodder is food?

OMG...this is going to sound bad, and as much as I know about Star Wars and all...

I feel like such an @$$!

You just now enlightened me to the fact that Bantha Poodoo was referring to food! I totally thought it was "poo-poo" up until this moment.

doh!

Well, I don't remember that, but you could be right...because I truly don't remember one way or the other! I wouldn't be surprised, tho...

I first saw ANH in theaters for the birthday party of a classmate in 3rd grade (the re-release), and when Leia was comforting Luke in the Falcon after Ben's death, I went to the bathroom. After the movie, the other boys were talking about how I missed the "kissing scene," so I always thought that Luke and Leia kissed there. love

I always thought that the Death Star was called Endor, because in the Star Tours ride apparently there trying to get to Endor but end up at the death star instead, so I thought that they blew up the moon of Endor in the movies and in the ride.

I was flipping through channels when I was younger and happened to come across the middle of Spaceballs and thought that it was Star Wars. because of that I always thought SW was a stupid comedy and refused to watch it. I didn't learn better until 1997. cry
