It confuses me when people just say Star Wars. I'm all like which Star Wars? They're is five of them out at the moment. I just call them Menace, Clones, Hope, Empire and Jedi. Easy!

Bringing back what BrendanWor said, it is kind of weird that A LOT of people refer to TPM and AotC as "Episode 1" and "Episode 2". I do this sometimes too; I guess it's just second nature since we've had to refer to them that way for years. And again, Lucas does it too; He says stuff like, 'Episode 1 takes place about 30 years before the original films', 'Episode 2 is set 10 years after Episode 1', and '...And that brings us to Episodes 4, 5, and 6'.
For the record, it's not that big a deal when everyday people refer to ANH as "Star Wars", but as I pointed out in my other post, it's when the media (or even Lucas) do it that it's really annoying.

Hmmmmmm, intresting this thread is.
I'm 15 and saw the original trilogy in thier SE 97 release.
I used to refer to ANH as Star Wars but now always ANH.
I sometimes say, 'Darth Maul was in Episode one.'
I never say 'Luke lost his hand in Episode five.'
I usually say ' the new one is Clones'
However when Im in the company of Knowlegable SW fans I usually use the subtitles INCLUDING A New Hope.

The reason people refer to the Pt trilogy by number instead of name is because they are known by number for such a long time before the official titles were released. If the titles were released before the PT went into production we would refer to them more by name then number.

For those of you who haven't read "Star Wars Insider" issue #60, here's the explaination straight from GL's mouth:
"and the marketing people said I could not put 'Episode IV' on the film. They said people would not understand. That was one of those instances where I said, 'All right, maybe I'm getting too far out here. Maybe Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is too much for an audience, and they would be completely confused.' So, I left that part off, but it was always meant to be there."
So class, Mr Lucas removed the "Episode IV" from the title, to avoid confusing audiences...to the point where they may have lost interest in the film. For those who weren't alive at the time, this is how it was. There is no harm in refering to the movie we knew as "Star Wars," that later became "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope," which later became "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope - Special Edition"

Yes.
It annoys the heck out of me.
As does "Dark Vader".
I refer to it as ANH.
I ALWAYS call it A New Hope.
In very casual speech and in the web, I call it ANH. I also do this with TPM and AOTC.
In casual speech I call it A New Hope. I do it with the others too. I must admit that I call the prequels Episode 1 and Episode 2... 
In formal speech I call it Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. I do this with Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and all of the others.

When AOTC came out, everyone was asking, "Did you see 'Star Wars'?" or if someone comes in the room while you are watching the OT, they ask, "Are you watching 'Star Wars'?" even though I maybe on ROTJ.

You have to realize that most people do not have your obsession with star wras. That is why no one i know calls that movie anh.
Basically i think it comes down to the realization that not every one is a nerd
