Nope...doesn't bother me a bit. When it came out, there was no ANH attached to the title. It was simply "Star Wars".

star wars can be confusing on the forums, but to people who aren't obsessed, in casual conversation, if you say a new hope they'll be like, what?

Nah, it doesn't bother me that people refer to it by the name under which it was originally released. How could it? Nor does it bother me that people call it ANH, Episode IV, or SW4. From a writer's standpoint, it's good that it has lots of names: cuts down on redundancy.
If anything bothers me, it's that Lucas stopped the "as taken from the 'Journal of the Whills'" subtitle. I thought that added a lot of nice mystery. One of my early imaginings of Episode I was that it would start with an older Luke who had come to an impasse in his training of new Jedi. Frustrated and needing guidance, he would return to Tatooine to find inspiration in Ben's hut. Despite having been there before, he discovers a portable holovid projector, which sputters to life with the words, "The Journal of the Whills". This then proceeds to document the meat of the PT. At the close of Episode III, the holovid sputters off and we return to Luke, who, having found something of use within the recording, leaves the hut, somehow newly confident of his place within the universe. Now, I know it's all very sentimental of me, but I was fascinated as a kid with the whole notion of this "Journal of the Whills"--which apparently still is what Lucas calls the original background notes he wrote--and wish that it had somehow made it into the films.

That Journel of the Whills idea would be great for an Ep7. We could go back and see all that stuff about Sunrider and the REALLY old Jedi.

Star Wars wasn't called Episode IV until 1979 when it was re-released shortly before the Empire Strikes Back. It threw a lot of people for a loop.

The above post most likely contains glaring spelling errors. Get over it, constant spell checking effects my creative thought.

You know the only people who get annoyed with people calling episode 4 Star Wars instead of ANH are the fans who never saw the original in the theater the first time!!. A couple of previous posts also mentioned this fact. To me it will ALWAYS be Star Wars and not ANH unless I have to clarify it when talking about the movie in a conversation. If you ask anyone who saw ANH in the theater the first time they'll always refer to episode 4 as Star Wars, never ANH. I actually find it irritating to refer to episode 4 as ANH and not simply as Star Wars.

George Lucas called it Star Wars on the Episode I dvd, and he has the final word. It does not bug me either way. I didnt even hear of A New Hope until mid 90's when they were released again on video. Even there on the THX trilogy It says only Star Wars on the outside box, and ANH on the tape itself.

I just recently started refering to it a ANH. It took me a while to do that. I grew up w/ it simply as Star Wars. I was even confused at A New Hope when I first heard it. All the fans who grew up with it simply as Star Wars have no problem with EP IV being Star Wars, that is what it is supposed to be to us.
It is the "new" fans who didn't always know it as Star Wars that have a problem when people don't call it ANH.
