Close call between RotJ and AotC... (gotta love the army scene with Palpy and Bail) RotJ (SE) gets my vote though.

Chewie's lack of a medal has a few theories... My best guess is it has to do with Wookiee culture. It's just honor. Maybe Chewie objected to having someone else put the medal on? Or maybe he just objected to that kind of ceremony? Or maybe Wookiees prefer to have that sort of reward bestowed on them in the company of their own kind? Who knows?
I seem to remember Lucas saying Chewie got the medal in a private ceremony later...it was there that Luke and Leia met Chewie's family, which is why they're so familiar with one another in *shudder* the Holiday Special.

I'm going with ANH. I came close to voting for TPM, because using the Emperor's theme that way is such a brilliant idea. But ANH always floors me...I mean, the shot of all the rebel officers in that giant room is staggering, but more importantly, the music is great. Luke's theme turned into a rousing march, with that great fanfare at the beginning...I love it.

what do you mean using the Emperor's theme that way? I'm thinking about the phantom menace ending song and it does sound like a faster happy version of the emperor theme. Is that what you mean?

I like them all, as they each have a different feel to them.

Holy crap! I happened to be listening to my TPM cd while reading this thread, and I skipped ahead to the final track. OMG, I can't believe how many times I've listened to it and never picked up on that. But you all are right!
I love finding out new things about these films.
My most favorite ending is without a doubt ROTJ, and that is due to Luke seeing Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda all smiling and at peace with each other. Add Lando grinning from ear to ear showing off how he piloted the Falcon out of the exploding Death Star with his hands for good measure.
I think second place is ANH, Chewbacca's growl and R2's beeps seal the deal.
3rd, AOTC. The wedding the most, with the troops on Coruscant sweetening the deal
4th, TPM. This could be higher, but the costuming freaks me out. I think his name is Even Piel - anyways he looks like an abomination of Yoda. Then there's the Padawan cut on Jake Lloyd which is downright humorous. It looked ok on Obi-Wan, but not young Ani. And Padme looks like a mime! But the music is cool and even cooler now  .
5th, ESB. Somber is the word here. Not a bad ending at all, it just gets outranked by the others IMHO. Which is strange because I like *all* the Star Wars movies, but I tend to lean a little more towards ESB.
