ROJ is a nearly perfect film but the Ewoks and somewhat bad dialogue and acting made it a so-so SW film.

ROTJ was a great movie. If not I wouldn't have spent its whole opening day trying to get tickets. However, ESB will always be my favorite. The lightsaber duel alone is enough to carry it above ROTJ.
Besides...It can't be my favorite because poor, poor Boba got thrown into the pit and got eaten. Poor Boba!!! WAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

While ROTJ may not be the best of the series and it's my least favorite of the OT, I still find it heads and tails (as just a movie) above the PT.

AOTC
ESB
TPM
ROTJ
ANH
But that doesn't mean I dont like it, i'd still give it 10/10 and its my 4th favourite film ever  The Space battle, Sail Barge, and Throne Room scenes are all some of the best in the series. And ROTJ Luke is my favourite character from all the films.

I love the Ewoks. It's a great film but when compared to ANH, and ESB it can only be so good.

Return of the Jedi will always be my favorite Star Wars movie (unless Episode III changes that). I mean, the Ewoks are okay, but I'm able to look past that to the real hero of the movie. Palpatine! Palpatine is the coolest character in the Star Wars saga, IMO, and Return of the Jedi is as much as we get of him in the movies.
The other thing that I really like from Return of the Jedi is that great space battle at the end. It's always been really cool to watch those ships blast away at each other. The first time I saw RotJ, I was on my feet anticipating if the Falcon was going to make it out or not.

I agree, there is some iffy acting in some spots, every one of the films has strong points and weak points (yes, even the beloved ESB), but overall ROTJ IMO is a great ending installment in the saga. The raw emotion throughout the movie is enough alone to thrust it at least on the same level as ESB or AOTC, and then the ligthsaber duel and such is enough to push it just above.
Though I still love all of them.

i think that it's a movie of two distinct halfs i loved the first half with Luke finally becoming the confident Jedi Knight that we all hoped he would (and i know he hadn't gone through the trails) also the depiction of Jabba's throne room was so cool i wish i could have my bedroom like that with trap door leading to the rancor...
However, i just can't get over the whole Teddy bears saving the universe setup it just smacks of lack of creativity,
GL - we've done the wookie thing so what else have got left?
some random bloke - errr small teddybears???
this also leads on to ESB with its true to life, sometimes the good guys lose theme being my favourite movie.

ROTJ is a good I like all the OT movies basically the same, ESB a little more but the ROTJ adn ANH a right behind it.

ROTJ has always been my favorite for a couple reasons.
1) I'm a sucker for happy endings, I love the last scene where Luke sees the Anakin/Yoda/Obi-Wan spirits.
2) When I first saw it I was pretty young, and I just loved Vader turning and throwing the Emperor to his death, brings me a warm feeling.
3) The dialouge near the end makes up for bad dialogue earlier in the film, especially Palpetine speaking to Luke and Vader(after he turned to the Light side) talking to Luke.
4) That face/shrug Han makes when they ambush the Imperials.
For me its:
1) ROTJ - For reasons stated above.
2) AOTC - This one probably won me over because I was never able to experience the OT in theatre (since I wasn't born and all), and the battles were quite enjoyable.
3) ESB - Yoda hits Artoo with a stick, classic.
4) ANH - Even though its my 4th favorite Star Wars film, its still my 4th favorite film 
5) TPM - Uhh the Saber fight at the end was great, but the film had mostly lost me by that point, I still went to see it 4 times though

i started this thing and have some things to say.
the ewoks, ('carebears', nice one), are the lowest point of the film but that doesn't drag the film below ESB!
in ROTJ:
1) anakin balances the force
2) the falcon destroys the death star
3) jedi knight luke skywalker is the coolest
4) jabba provides most genorously with jokes
5) the emperor IS A NUTTER
in ESB:
1)?????
EMPIRE has to build up tensions to be resolved in JEDI, after the battle of hoth at the beginning nothing great happens for like an hour, there is no rousing climax cos the battle is at the start,it is not as great as everyone makes out. THERE ARE SO MANY MISTAKES TOO!
in IMHO the movies rate in this order:
1.JEDI
2.EMPIRE
3.CLONES
4.HOPE
5.MENACE

the reason why ROTJ even work at all is because ESB sets all the thoughts in motion. From the defeat Luke has at the hand of his father which of course is raised in ESB and has the most famous line in SW of "I am your father" thus introducing the dilema of patricide to set the universe a right which is been an issue that man has struggled with for time immemorial from the Greek philosiphers right through to our time. Also Yoda beating R2-D2 with a stick whilst shrilling "mine, mine" as well as the line about how does Luke grow so tall on the food that he eats is also rather amusing. The classic line of Leia saying "i love you" with Han's reply of "I know" is the kind of thing that raises ESB above all the other SW movies. The handling of the diologue was exemplary which is something the rest of the movie failed to even near let alone beat QED.

hush silky. the fact that EMPIRE supports JEDI doesn't make it the superior film. obviously all of the star wars lore stuff you quoted is loved by everyone but a few lines doesn't change the order of greatness that i put the films in.
i think that the ewok issue would be rectified if GL re-shot the battle of endor and made it the battle of kashyyrk for the dvd release of JEDI. wookies are better than ewoks.
