The painful thing about ROTJ is that it has the BEST scenes in the entire PT/OT series (Vader vs Luke vs Palpatine, the space battle) as well as the WORST scenes in the series (Ewoks). Also, the Tatooine sequence is too long and is too distracting from the core plot, which is the end of the empire.

Remove the Ewoks, shorten the Jabba stuff, and you've got the best movie of the five.

AOTC
TESB
ROTJ
ANH
TPM

stormcloud8 i agree with grin . but the minor setbacks (ewok/jabba singing girls scenes) can't possibly overshadow the best space battle ever, the most anticipated sith/jedi brawl ever, and the force being balanced, the only ever return of a fallen jedi, the millenium falcon/lando mashing the deathstarII, and the best line in a star wars film ever:

Palpatine: Your hate has made you powerful, now take your fathers place at my side

....

Luke: Never, I'll never turn to the Darkside, you've failed your highness, I'm a Jedi like my father before me

by the way mr. "imajedilikemyfather" if you dislike JEDI to such a great extent don't quote it as your name and signiture, that's backward. confused

will everyone do me a favour and ignore silky's posts? they're just monotonous. happy

"the best space battle ever"

No, the best space battle ever is ANH. It as a lot more suspense and tension. the battle of ROTJ has more ships and action, but it is more confusing, not as much tense as the ANH battle, and its outcome is pretty much ridiculous.

"the most anticipated sith/jedi brawl ever"

And when the time arrived, the two greatest force users fought in a rather clumsy way...

"and the force being balanced"

In a poorly manner

"the only ever return of a fallen jedi"

How do you know? there had been dark jedi for thousands of years. Some of them must have return from the dark side. the fact that it didnt show on the film, doesnt mean it didnt happen before.

"the millenium falcon/lando mashing the deathstarII"

Nothing compared with the destruction of the origional DS. By the time that the millenium destroyed the DS, the emperor was already dead, and the rebellion won. No big deal.

"and the best line in a star wars film ever"

Of course thats your opinion.

I think the best line is the Emperor's "Oh ... I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive". The delivery of that line alone redeems any slight conflicts I have with ROTJ.

Also Jedi contradicts itself as Kingpin So excellently highlighted with his qoute from Luke "i'll never turn to the darkside" except Luke already had in ESB where he attacked Vader in anger and continued to do so in ROTJ. In a sense Luke failed when he fought Vader and the emperor as to gain victory he had to turn to the darkside and also actually failed to beat them as he turned his father and his father dealt with mr palpy. As far as the best space battle?
-well as you can see thats already been answered ANH is far more entertaining.
the most anticipated sith/jedi brawl ever?
- personally am waiting in greater anticipation for Dooku/who ever kills him fight then i ever did for the vader/Luke one, when it just came down to it the fighting was a clumsy varient of medieval sword fighting styles whereas all the prequal films have been far more pleasing to the eye and actually look like they have been planned and trained for rather then they just go out and improvise with no real knowledge of what they are doing, so your term brawl is far more apt then you realise.
"the millenium falcon/lando mashing the deathstarII" ?
- this was a pointless excerise as the rebellion had already won in GL's vision. Although conventionally speaking this does not make sense as ROTJ consistantly fails to do such as the whole ewok thing.
"the only ever return of a fallen jedi" ?
is this really the case although i know that this is not the forum for this but EU has many instances both previous and post ROTJ.
"and the force being balanced" ?
-did it really happen here? i haven't seen any evidence to support this as there were still darkside users about as well as other jedi the movies just concentrate on the skywalker family so this statement of the force being balanced may very well be incorrect.

ps by the way mr. "imajedilikemyfather" if you dislike JEDI to such a great extent don't quote it as your name and signiture, that's backward. Kingpin if you actually bothered to read his post then you would actually find out that he didn't say he disliked the movie but rather that it is poorly constructed which nobody has thus far doubted but you.

i still believe all of the points i brought out were the best as i said. but your arguments were nice.

thanx slave2 and mobartzmuda for saying what you believe to be the best lines, although there are many classic/humourous lines in EMPIRE i find i no longer watch star wars for the humour but mainly for the mythos.

i agree that the PT lightsaber brawls are more eastern martial art orientated and therefore look better but that was not what i meant by most eagerly anticipated.

the force was indeed balanced in JEDI, GL said it in an interview which most of you probably own.

and the return of vader was the only return of a sith to jedi satus. it is said that vader returned but in all other instances sith could not be redeemed in the same way since vader was the prophesied. sith are not aloud to rejoin the jedi order ever, but in a way vader did by killing palpitine and indirectly causing the creation of a new jedi order. THE new jedi order.

oh, and RE:

p.s. by the way mr. "imajedilikemyfather" if you dislike JEDI to such a great extent don't quote it as your name and signiture, that's backward. Kingpin if you actually bothered to read his post then you would actually find out that he didn't say he disliked the movie but rather that it is poorly constructed which nobody has thus far doubted but you.

posted by silky. i think you'll find silky that if you actually read mr."iamajedilikemyfather"'s post he said he only liked the 'basic outline' of JEDI, in my books that constitutes as disliking a film.

I savored every single one of the Emperor's lines in ROTJ like a fine wine. His delivery (each and every line!!) is my favorite part of the five movies to date. I only hope we get to hear him talking like that in Ep III. Darth Sidious is cool, and he comes close to hitting it in that character, but there's just something about the arrogance of Ian McDiarmid in ROTJ that can't be topped by his other performances. So far, that is...

ROTJ has the greatest space battle ever! Thank God they didn't have CGI back then. They couldn't do that battle with computers today, that is without making it look like a Playstation game from 1995. Hey Iamajedi, the reason nobody else complains about the way the lightsabers look is because they look great. If they look blobby to you,you should get your eyes checked!

i'm glad most people believe JEDI's space battle is the best ever.

you know what? i think that the sheer tangebility of the pre-cgi days increase the realism of the battle. don't get me wrong, i'm a cgi fanatic, love the stuff, but something about the model spaceships look better. i think cgi should be kept to characters and environments.

With the OT,it's hard for me to call one better than the other but I think ROTJ is equally as good as the beloved ESB.
