I got hooked on skywalker just beause the story appealed to me so much. The idea that he is the last of these great warriors and whether or not they survive depends on him...I thought that was cool, that and the way he wielded a lightsaber in ESB.

Luke is da man!!! The most interesting and cool character in the whole saga. He is just SO COOL in ROTJ! The only character in the saga that I could identify with.
Luke's best line (and one of the best lines in the whole saga):
You've failed your highness. I'm a jedi like my father before me.

"Luke's Force signature was great and magnificent and in sharp contrast to the Jedi’s diminutive frame. His Force signature was slightly less in potential that that of young Anakin, yet it bore the strength of a grown man in the prime of his life who had already encountered but refused the lure of the Dark. This sun had passed through the eclipse and returned."
So true.
I would say (I know this can cost me the life) that Luke role as The Son of the Suns in his world is as worthy, if not even worthier, than the role of Vader/Anakin as the Chosen One.

At what stage in the OT (if at any time) did you feel well, moved by Luke's plight. I felt so, so sorry for Luke in ESB when he falls into Vaders trap (just after he hears Leia's warning) - something very sad that moment, reminds me of an animal being manipulated and led to the slaughter. Anyone else?
(Sl OT - found an (allegedly) original copy of the movie poster for "Corvette Summer" in a market today.. tag line "You liked Mark Hammill in Star Wars, now see him in Corvette Summer" ... very cheesy).

Well I felt a little sad but at the same time moved by his courage. He knew what was waiting for him (well maybe not exactly but Yoda and Ben sort of told him what to expect).

First, when his uncle and aunt died. Then, when he found out Obi-Wan had lied to him about his dad. I was a kid when SW came out, and was furious this old geezer (my opinion of Obi at that time) had lied and manipulated him, and him and Yoda had conspired to turn Luke into a weapon to fight Vader and the Emperor.
Now, as an adult, my vehemence against Obi has waned, but I still feel moved by Luke's story, by his being forced to grow up and learning the truth of his family. I hope Ep. 3 shows us why Yoda and Obi did what they did with Luke and Leia. I think they could have made other decisions, decisions that wouldn't have kept the twins separate and being lied to.

First, when his uncle and aunt died
Yeah, actually come to think of it, I do feel down, just thinking about that scene when you see the wind blow Luke's hair, his face turned away and that wonderful force music swelling up....
(V realistic dead burnt aunt and uncle btw - little kid I saw ANH with recently was as terrified by that one scene as I was when I first saw it)

Was gone for the weekend, but now I'm back!
I felt sorry for Luke after he learned the Truth about Vader and he was stuck on that projection above the Cloud City abyss, death taunting him from below, Vader taunting him from the side.
Also when Lando and Leia got him into the Falcom, and he was all beaten up and sweaty and worn out...it's like, the poor guy!
But most of all when Palpy was frying him with Force lightening...he's writhing on the floor screaming, literally smoking from these electric blasts, while his darklord father looks on and the ruthless Palpy slowly kills him without a shred of compassion. You can imagine the fear, the horror, the sick feeling in your stomach, knowing that noone, noone, could help you, and you are going to die at the hands (literally 'at the hands') of the most evil man in the galaxy.
I ALWAYS start crying at that part. ALWAYS!

I would say (I know this can cost me the life) that Luke role as The Son of the Suns in his world is as worthy, if not even worthier, than the role of Vader/Anakin as the Chosen One.
Light Jedi, I see them as the Binary Sons of the Binary Suns. It is heartbreaking to see the Lukeisms in Anakin because we know that it could have all been different.
As for moments where I identified with Luke, I take the seen in ANH when Luke, after arguing with Owen ("Looks like I'm going nowhere.") stands out gazing at the Binary Sunset. A scene of essential teenage frustration, yearing for independence, adventure, yearings that are part of the normal maturation process, yet can lead to unknown dangers. That in AOTC we see it is the same spot where Anakin began his Dark Path makes a favorite scene of mine even better.
Another favorite Luke scene is illustrated in this forum's Halloween banner: Luke in the shadow of the funeral pyre that he built for his father.

Luke being frustrated with "going nowhere" and staring at the sunset was probably the most touching scenes for me as a kid. I identified with that, wanting to get away from everything, make a new life for myself, make a difference. To this day, that's one of the reasons Luke will always be my favorite character from SW, period.

That Binary Sunset scene is the one that everyone seems touched by. Every person who's seen SW seems to have loved that part. The music, especially, is the most beautiful in all the rest of the Trilogy.
They had that sunset music in Ep. II, I've noticed, when Anakin rides off to find his mom. However, it does not have the same impact, somehow, as does the scene from ANH. I was actually a little mad that they put that music into Ep.II. Excuse me, but that's LUKE'S music!!!
I think EVERY gal became a Luke fan at that paricular sunsetting moment!

I too identified with Luke's desire to get away from home.
We both wanted to leave and do things that we'd never done before but were held back by overprotective parents or parental figures. While I wanted to leave home, I was a little scared to leave the safety of home and my family. I think Luke was a little afraid too. Otherwise, he would have left Uncle Owen no matter how many times Uncle Owen said that he "needed him one more season".
Of course Luke's leaving home despite his Uncle's "need" for help on the farm would have been very selfish. I never got the feeling that Luke was selfish enough to abandon the people who needed him to pursue his dreams.
Luke's decision to leave Tatooine was made for him. After his uncle and aunt were murdered and the farm was burned, there was no need for him to hang around anymore. He practically had no other choice but to leave with Ben.
I felt sorriest for him during ESB after he found out who his father was. Luke had been through so much (losing his aunt and uncle and his home, losing Ben and Biggs, losing his hand) that finding out that Ben had lied to him about who his father was and finding out that DV was his father was too much.
