How come I didn't see luke burnin his dad's cool metallic suit in this one. I mean what else did he have to leave his kids, an Empire, nope, not even a stamp collection.

Isn't the body still in the suit? Why does everyone say burning the Vader suit?

Eh? The funeral scene is still there on mine.
And as far as I'm concerned, the body is still in the suit. Leather & metal don't burn as easily as that thing was.

Since I had first seen the films, I had always assumed that Vader's body had dissapeared.

I beleive GL, the movie staff, www.starwars.com, and the RotJ book all state that Vader faded vanished when he died.

That's correct. Although I always believed his body to be in the suit, the Official Site has stated that Ani-Vader's body dissappeared, so it was just the suit that went up.

And yes, the sequence is still in the SE.

There probably wasnt much of the body left.

Obi: He is more machine than man now, twisted and evil.

What about his cyborg parts? Did THEY disappear, too?

They changed it. In the original script he didn't disappear, in the SE script he did. Of course now it makes no sense.

I have one problem with the idea that Anakin/Vader's body disappeared upon his death. From what we see of Obi-Wan's and Yoda's passing, the disappearance, should it happen, occurs *immediately* at the moment of death. In RETURN OF THE JEDI, however, we see Anakin/Vader's material form (his flesh, not the armor) continue to exist for at least several seconds after he expires.

Then we must conclude from that scene that Vader isn't quite dead just yet. He most likely dies a few seconds after the scene ends.

I've been in this conversation before but the funeral pyre scene in ROTJ was very obviously filmed as just that, a funeral. Not as some kind of symbolic purging of a symbol of evil or whatever but a funeral. Even people who like the idea of Luke dragging an empty suit through the forest and building a funeral pyre for it have to admit that it was initially filmed as a funeral, with a dead guy in the suit. I will freely admit that they did change the script so that Anakin did disappear before the funeral. The scene just doesn't work as well that way though, IMO.

I just watched it yesterday and I didn't see the scene, It used to be right before Luke walked out to see Leia. Could someone help, I'll check again.

The bonfire is right where it always is: after Han and Leia kiss, and before the planets around the galaxy celebrate.
