ok, i'm confused by yet another piece of trivia:
http://www.starwars.com/databank/location/deathstar/index.html
it says that the death star was grand moff tarkin's idea. where is he in episode II when they are talking about the "weapon" that we see as the death star?

Wilhuff Tarkin and Raith Seinar. Just because the Geonosians were going to build it, doesn't mean they designed it. They might have bought the plans or something.

Many, many people created the Death Star. Raith Sienar first conceived the project, and Tarkin took it from him. He presented the idea to Palpatine, who contracted the Geonosians to make the initial designs of the station. Bevel Lemelisk worked with the Geonosians.
Later, a prototype of the Death Star was created, under the supervision of Bevel Lemelisk, Tol Sivron and Qwi Xux. Once it was demonstrated that the station worked, Lemelisk was assigned to be chief engineer of the construction of both Death Stars.
That's the short version.

I don't think the Geonosians built it, if they did it would probabley be made out of red rock and shoot sonic balls.

That's right. Tarkin's been around for a while; his character is in his 50s-60s in ANH, which means he's still in the prime of his youth during the last days of the Old Republic.
Lucas had better put a young Tarkin in Episode 3.

Uggh. The Genosians designed the Death Star. All these other characters that are mentioned are EU and not canon. As far as we know, Tarkin has nothing to do with the construciton of the Death Star and I highly doubt we will see him in Episode 3.

I never said they didn't.
All these other characters that are mentioned are EU and not canon.
Would you mind telling me where you get that idea from? Feel free to PM me if you would like to further discuss the EU's canon status, since I don't want to bog this thread down with yet another canon debate.

That's right. He was the person who presented the concept of the station to Palpatine, though.
and I highly doubt we will see him in Episode 3.
I think he should be in there, if only for continuity's sake. People will watch ANH and think "who is this guy?"

So far just from the movies it's all Geonosians. But I'm sure anything to do with Tarkin will be shwon in 3.

No need to get indignant over it. I'm sure you're capable of sensibly conveying you opinion without the mention of canon. After all, the simple mention of that little word can tear a thread apart with arguments. If I were the author of this thread, I wouldn't want that at all.
It's simple.
If you accept the EU: Refer to Bib's wonderful explanation.
If you don't: Voice your opinion or speculation without shooting down the EU answer. It may not be considered a definitive answer in these forums, though the author of this thread might like and accept it.
Not going by what the EU has laid down, I really couldn't give an answer. I haven't seen Episode III yet, so I don't know what George wants to do with this.
