I was able to pick up two of the Temple Assault sets myself (left a third for another collector). I'm pretty happy with these. Sure they could be better...but I'm a fan of the Quick-Draw mold and I'm impressed that they actually gave us both guns for each 501st troop...that's something they really didn't need to do.

My only complaint is the the shoulder connection was left white and it just looks awkward. Otherwise I am very happy with these clones. My two favorites from RotS were Bly and his troopers (I'm still waiting on my Evolutions set to start that army) and the Special Operations troopers. I love that Hasbro seems to be going out of their way to give us several variations of this group.

I found the basic three-pack clone troopers (red variation) at my local Targets yesterday. (Atlanta metro area, if anyone's from there.) I had found the blue variation two-three weeks ago, but haven't seen it since.

As far as the Deluxe 3-Packs are concerned, I've found the White, the Red/Rust, and the Green sets in either Toys R Us or Wal-Mart stores. I still haven't located the blue.

Until this weekend, I'd only seen the green variation. I went to a Wal-Mart about 15 miles away the other day by accident, and found the pegs packed to the gills with these sets, and the white, rust, and green were visible out front in large numbers. I'm sad I didn't look to see if they had the blue as well behind them, as the stock seemed basically untouched.
I also got to see for the first time the shock trooper and black pilot variations in large numbers, as well as several SA clones, a green commander, and several Bacaras. This new Wal-Mart was built out "in the sticks", and just had it's grand opening, but the town it's built by is very small, and I don't think there are many collectors out there...I wish I'd bought some of the clone stuff, because it's starting to grow on me...
EDIT: I ordered a Bacara the other day before I saw them in the stores finally, and he arrived today...cool figure despite his lack of articulation...dang it...I feel myself catching the "clone fever", which I really can't afford...
*contemplates going to Wal-Mart again and putting lots of that clone stuff on layaway for personal use*

Congratulations. You've just taken your first step into a larger, Clone dominated world.

Heh...thanks...I think I might start small by sticking to the movie variations first, then trying for the non-movie ones later...with the exception of the Clone Commander, since he's pretty cool.
Hmmm...time to get a second job maybe? Or at least pull 10 hours a day at work to afford all of those clones...

I dropped by Toys R Us at lunch time today and spotted the really cool GI Joe Army builder 6-packs they had. Essentially it's just a set of repaints with lots of extra guns, but it's pretty cool to be able to buy 6 Cobra Soldiers or Crimson Guards for $19.99.
Since this is Hasbro, do you think we could convince them to use the same marketing scheme for Clonetroopers? Imagine a six-pack of repaints where we can finally get our Utaupaun, or Felucia, or Kashyyyk troops. I think I would be in Clone Collector Heaven.

I do agree with this idea...I think they should expand it too so there would be opposing forces such as (a decent sculpt) battle droid and wookiee army building packs also, with enough paint differences that the six figures in the pack are alike but different (I really like that wookiee warrior sculpt, though out here the massive peg warming numbers will probably be on clearance soon enough). If they really wanted to be ambitious, there are lots of other themed six packs they could pull off from the rest of the saga (ewoks, storm troopers, maybe tusken raiders, and for the those six people that actually like them, the Gungan six pack army builder).
Granted, interest in the figures if they were also packaged individually again might be reduced, but they've sold enough variations on most of these figures individually that I don't think they'd be losing much if they took this route (that's where the molds for the repaints would come from). I also think having some variants on these packs, like the clone ones you mentioned, would add buyability to the packs and variety to the armies.
I might sound like I'm going nuts, but the six pack army builder set is a good idea, and I think there would be a lot of takers for the clones at very least, and if they were done well, some of the others I mentioned.

Actually Roland, I think we've already seeing things head in that direction.
The Battle Packs are essentially Star Wars versions of the same thing. Sure, they're five figures rather than six at a slightly higher price point...but the problem there is that SW figures are more expensive per piece than GI Joe to begin with. We'll never see something identical to them in terms of price per fig just because of SW licensing costs.
Still, the "Clone Attack on Coruscant" is damn close...more like it are most certainly welcome in my book.

Not a bad idea...off the top of my head I can think of at least one each for the six movies. All of these could be done with existing sculpts and with simple repaints all figures would be army builders with no ties to any particular characters...
TPM - 2 Gungan Warriors, 1 Gungan Officer (Tarpals repaint) vs. 2 Battle Droids, 1 Destroyer Droid
AOTC - 2 Clone Troopers, 1 Jedi (CW Jedi Army repaint) vs. 2 Battle Droids (red repaint of Ep I mold), 1 Super Battle Droid
ROTS - 2 Wookies, 1 Jedi (CW Jedi Army repaint) vs. 2 Clone Troopers, 1 Clone Commander...could put Jedi leading Clones against random Battle Droids, but that would be redundant
ANH - 2 Rebel Fleet Troops, 1 Rebel Officer (Antilles repaint?) vs. 2 Stormtroopers, 1 Imperial Officer
TESB - 2 Hoth Troops, 1 Hoth Officer (repaint of a second troop sculpt) vs. 2 Snowtroopers, 1 AT-AT Driver (ye olde Fan Club exclusive)
ROTJ - 2 Endor Troops, 2 Ewoks (count as 1, they're small) vs. 2 Scout Troopers, 1 AT-ST Driver

@darcphoenyx - Awesome...I love those suggestions, and many of those are pretty much what I was envisioning, though I hadn't figured out which figures would be best included in the sets. I think those would sell great, though...I for one would probably buy all of them, and there are enough good sculpts out there of figures that it wouldn't be hard for Hasbro to do this if they just thought of it first. As you said, it seems this is the direction Hasbro is heading, and I hope they keep going until they arrive at some of the sets you mentioned before...I'd be one of the first to buy them if I saw them (so far, the other battle packs haven't made it to our area, but I'm going out of town in a couple weeks to where we have TRU and Target stores as well as a better Wal-Mart).

Those are great suggestions. I think the problem right now with the Star Wars Battle Packs is that they generally include mostly repacks and few repaints. Remember the Imperial Set (the only early TRU exclusive worth getting) with repacked Vader and Stormtrooper, Vader, and repainted droid? Most of the sets are filled with figures we already have and do not need again. The trick is to provide repacks, or repaints of characters who do appear in large numbers, and not individuals. That means Stormtroopers, Battledroids, Geonosians, Ewoks, and Gungans, not another Luke, or Anakin figure.
That's mostly what you get with the GI Joe sets, although they too have their share of annoying repacks (like a cool Crimson Guard pack with 3 Guards, Tomax, and stupidly Firefly). I just don't see Hasbro taking advantage of these sets to satisfy the collector. It's more to give the new fan a jump into the action. Sadly, the Attack on Coruscant and Assault on the Jedi Temple are the exception, not the rule.

Yes, I agree. I'm not a fan of straight up repacks of principle characters. Heaven knows my collection tubs are littered with Vaders of all shapes and sizes, as wells as any number of ANH white shirted Lukes and such, and the same goes for the PT main characters, who have even less costume variations than Luke did. I bought them individually when they came out...I don't need them again...the figures who appear in large numbers are where the appeal is for me, and boost my chances of buying a set. If done properly, such sets should (but aren't guaranteed to) reduce scalping of various army units, or at least reduce the need of the casual collector to have to go online to find just one if they are available in larger quantities as well. True variations of original figures, though, like in the Jed vs Sith battle pack, don't annoy me, and add some buyability to those sets (granted none of those figures are ones that appear in large numbers in the movies, so they pretty much had to do something original).

Yeah...what is Firefly doing in that set anyway?
You're definitely right about what we've seen in the past from the SW line Roland...but I can't help but think they're testing the waters with some of these recent sets. Keep in mind that the SW line changed managers within Hasbro, and the current guy in charge came to us from the GI Joe line.
Right now the Battle Packs are very odd birds...there isn't really a unified order to these things so I don't think you can single any out as being an exception to the rule really. In fact, each one sort of shows a different twist on the multi-pack concept when you think about it...
Jedi vs. Sith - cheap new sculpts mixed in with re-hash around a similar theme, all primary characters (similar to sets by Toy Biz & others)
Jedi vs. Separatists - kit-bashed improvements mixed in with re-hash, all primary characters (old school SW "new collector" set)
Rebel vs. Empire - straight re-hashed figures, mostly primary charaters (old school SW "new collector" set with zero effort)
Throne Room - scene builder with minor army building potential, one primary character (cross between traditional SW packs and GI Joe)
Jedi Temple Assault - army builder re-paints & re-hash, one primary character (similar to GI Joe)
Assault on Hoth - army builder re-hash of mostly older sculpts, one secondary character (similar to GI Joe, particularly when they dip into the dusty old molds)
Clone Attack on Coruscant - complete army builder re-paint set, all anonymous troops (might as well be GI Joe)
...the key here I think is going to be voting with our wallets. Which I can't help but think is already happening. At my local K-Mart the Temple Assault disappeared as soon as they were put out, while the Throne Room sets.
