It's just cheap exclusive syndrome...it seems like those multipacks almost always cut corners a bit by using more flimsy, bendy plastic. It's common across the Battle Pack line (the Rebel vs. Empire set's Stormtrooper's leg looks broken because of it) and the Saga TRU four packs were the exact same way (most notably the bendy 300th figure Boba Fett, which was just freakish).

It's really not that bad on the Temple Assault set actually, but I think it is something people need to be aware of before they buy it...and something that's getting overlooked in the criticism of the Tactical Ops Trooper, which is why I brought it up here.

The only exclusives I've ever gotten were a handful of the Wal-Mart ones back when Kenner still had control of things. They were new figures, and they seemed to be pretty decent. I haven't had much experience with the newer era of exculsives, but this sounds like it kind of sucks the way they're trying to cut costs with the sets. I've stopped thinking that "exclusive" means "especially good", though.

C-3PO: Master Luke, sir. Pardon me for asking, but what should R2 and I do if we're discovered here?
Luke: Lock the door.
Han Solo: And hope they don't have blasters.
C-3PO: That isn't very reassuring.
Darth Vader: Today will be a day long remembered.

Exclusive is most probably referred to as "limited". Too bad Hasbro doesn't get it: instead of mass-producing their finer examples, they limit quantities of those and on the other hand they overwhelm us with crappy figures. It should be the other way round. Crappy figures = limited, nice figures = more, more, more!!!

Generally speaking the single figure exclusives are just fine. All of the ROTS single carded exclusive figs that I've picked up have been excellent quality at the same level (or above) what you see on the standard basic line.

It's the mulitpack kid-oriented sets that I'm talking about here. But it sort of makes sense at the same time. After all look at the TRU 4 packs. For those they put in four figures that each could go for $5 on their own, and then added a bonus item (speeder, cannon, tauntaun, etc.) and kept the price at around $20. In order to make that price work for an item that was also going to be somewhat limited (compared to a wide release basic figure) they had to do something...so they just used cheaper plastics.

For what you're getting for the money, and considering most of these types of sets are targeted at non-collectors...it's really not a bad deal when it comes down to it.

Now on the newer Battle Packs it's a bit different...here they're going for around $25 for five figures and you aren't getting anything special...and in some cases you're getting less than you would for basic figures because they've cut some accessories out. So when it comes down to it they aren't quite the deal that sets like the TRU ones were since they still use the same plastic. The problem here isn't with Hasbro though, it's with the retailers...Hasbro supposedly targeted these sets for closer to the $20 price tag...which would make them more worthwhile.

On the other hand I can say from personal experience that the Quick-Draw repaint that is in the Battle Pack is most definitely made from softer plastic...and as a result he's nowhere near as nice as the original Quick-Draw or Shocktrooper releases. It limits his poseability, makes him look a little less accurate overall, and guess what his hands always pop out of the joints when I'm working with him. Nevermind the fact that the paint is also inaccurate and lacking in detail. I believe people who haven't seen this figure first hand are giving it way more credit than it deserves.

confused That's not the case with the figures I got in my Jedi Temple Assault Battle Packs. I just compared them with my other Quick-Draw troopers to make sure and I can say that the plastic is of the same quality and the paint-job is good. I'm pleased with this figure as much as I am the Shock Trooper.

The Quick-Draw is my favorite of the clone figures. The SA is actually a little too poseable for my tastes and looks strange at times and the AT-TE Tank Gunner was just a fairly poor figure from the plastic, to the elbows, to the face sculpt, etc. I dislike removable helmets as is and this figure didn't do much to change that opinion.

I'll still buy a few of the carded 501st troops when they come out and I'm hoping that it is an improved figure over the last one that came from that mold. It could be great, but I'll have to wait and see.

Hmm...interesting, in that case these sets might also be inconsistent, which in my mind is almost worse. The ones I picked up are very obviously substandard plastic compared to the Shocktrooper and original white QD Clone. Like I've said already, that's not to say it's horrible...it's just to say it's more like the original AT-TE gunners in that respect. Two of my three 501st troops lost their hands while I was removing them from the plastic, for example.

My comments on the paint-job had more to do with accuracy than quality. The upcoming carded figure is much more screen accurate than the Battle Pack version which aside from the obviously missing leg stripes is the wrong color and lacks any sort of weathering.

I'm please with the figure regardless...I just don't think he's up to the quality level that there would've been as a basic fig.

Can you describe the box and any key numbers I might look for? If I'm ever around Wal-Mart at stock time, I'd like to know what to look for. I know they are basic cardboard boxes with a purple stripe, but I've actually looked through quite a few boxes that are listed as "Hasbro - Action Figures" and have lightsabers or something like that in them. Thanks! wink

While off on a business trip I had the opportunity to watch RotS again on my hotel Pay-per-view. I spent much of the movie looking over all the different clones that appeared to answer some of the questions I've had in the past.

The Battle over Coruscant pack coming from Target is indeed movie accurate so far as the regular troopers are concerned. The Kashyyyk troopers were dressed in the same white armor with gray markings while loading up their ships on Coruscant. (Although there was certainly no gray Bacara in sight)

Watching the battle of Kashyyyk, it appears that Commander Gree is in fact a unique clonetrooper as well. All of his soldiers were either PT Scout Troopers or AT-RT drivers. So I'll only be buying one Gree is seems.

I was wondering about that Gree thing. I guess it would depend on how "EU" you felt like getting, and how much you wanted to bend the rules. I had a thought about that myself actually. I considered buying several Grees if they came out and using them as the generic clones with the green clone commander repaint as their commander...but then that sort of ignores the existence of Gree, which would bother some (not me, since he died in the movie).

Where does the Target exclusive clone appear in the films?

Not once. But it is a very sexy clone tongue

I'm in favor of a Clone in Jedi gear. It'll look sweet, feel sweet. But cant use the force..... damn lucas.

Anyway, about Gree..... Nothing.

Personally I'll be purchasing a single Gree...he'll be used to command a small squad of the excellent AT-RT Driver figures (with guns borrowed from the Quick-Draw Clones).

The Target exclusive Clone was not in the movie, though there were some similar Clones to him. The two Clones who killed Stass Allie as she was riding a speeder bike (one of whom is named Commander Neyo) have the same emblem from the Target Clone on their armor. Most notably they have a different style helmet than standard Clones. They also have a chest strap and small pauldron in the same style as the one Bacara wears...and I think the left shoulder on their armor is painted solid red.

If you want to go a little EU-ish you can explain away the Target Clone as being an off-camera member of Neyo's troops.

Yeah...I was wondering why the BARC speeder didn't come with a similar troop after I saw the movie. I was looking at the Gree troopers and wondering how close they are to OT Biker Scouts without their coloration. There might be some potential for customization there if there's a similarity...although the AT-RT driver is a match for his troops also, so there's probably not much point.

The box was pretty small, maybe a foot long. It said Star Wars E3 Basic Figures on the side.

I just got the green clone cmdr variant today. Is there even a green clone IN the movie? (Just a pet peeve of mine - which is why I kept the receipt).
