Jean, what do you mean by summer hours? That there's still light outside when you get home in summer after a long day of working?

Some companies (not mine, though) have early closing on Fridays during the summer. Typically they let you go around lunchtime.

Happy Fourth of July  ! At least to any of you who celebrate American holidays. I'm actually kind of mad. Sci-Fi channel shows a Twilight Zone marathon every 4th. That means no Doctor Who tonight, which means we'll be yet another week behind schedule!

Basically that is it. I work the extra 4 hours during the week then go home at 1pm on Friday. Which came in useful today, well left late anyway because my lift had to stay late but rest of the afternoon was spent at the doctor as I had been bitten by a venomous spider and it became infected, it was not a pretty sight. Currently limping around as they had to cut me open in the office, have to go back everyday to get the wound cleaned and re bandaged until I get the all clear and on antibiotics to get rid of the toxins from my body for the next two weeks.
Looking forward to Who tomorrow which is something I guess.

Ouch..how did you manage to be bitten?
Morning all - sunny/cloudy here with showers forecast for later. They might get some play in at Wimbledon but the Ladies Final doesn't start until 2pm or so and I bet that gets interrupted by showers. Tomorrow is supposed to be wetter for the Mens Final and it doesn't really improve on Monday or Tuesday.
BBC News has been full of Dr Who clips in the run-up to tonight's final. It starts at 640 PM UK time. I'll post about it after it's over (with any spoilers hidden, of course).

Thanks for the explanation, Laj and Jean.
In Germany either you have a short Friday normally (whole year) and working longer the other days like you described or you have the same hours for every day in the week. We don't have anything like 'summer hours', but in my view it's great that you can go earlier on Fridays, Jean. Enjoy those longer weekends! 
As Laj said, how did you manage to get biten? I hope it will be fine very soon. Since I hate spiders, I just can imagine that such a bite must be horrible.

I don’t know. I didn’t even feel getting bit, and it was on the back of my leg so couldn’t see it, Mike noticed it a few days ago when I had shorts on (I normally wear long trousers for work). It just got bigger and started to go down but looked like it was a zit until it started to hurt, and it really hurt touching it slightly was painful and walking was too because it was located just above the knee so we thought it might be a cyst or a bite. Mike’s ex brother in law drives an ambulance so sees a lot of stuff said it was a spider bite so went to the walk in clinic yesterday and it was and they had to cut me open there which was painful but got worse as whatever they used to freeze my leg wore off.
So today have to go back to get it cleaned again and medication, tablets are huge and don’t taste very nice but better than having the bite still.
After seeing the doctor again we’ll be going to this International village thing being held I guess about 45 mins away as they have a British village there. Time I get Dr Who it will probably be tomorrow so no logging online from this afternoon as I know people on Facebook will spoil me

You guys are killing me. Sci-Fi won't show the finale for 4 more weeks here. Right now I'm watching Age of Steel yet again on BBC America. They seem to be stuck on season 2.

I received a devastating phone call a few hours ago regarding the passing of a local Fanforce member. Nick had entered hospital earlier this week to have surgery on his jaw to correct malocclusion/over bite. The details are sketchy but were was some sort of a complication during his recovery and he passed away this morning. Nick was attending university and was only 22 years old. While I did not have the privilege on knowing him well I always found Nick to be a pleasant young man with a passion for life. He was always friendly and had a great personality. He was a big Star Wars fan and always had a great big smile on his face whenever I spoke with him.
I find myself filled with profound sadness and shock that someone with their whole life ahead of them could be taken at such a young age. It really makes me remember how fragile life is and how so very important it is for us all to life a good life and to cherish it.
