Hey there everyone,
Quick question, I want to start collecting star wars memorabilia but I don't know which trilogy to do. Is there and easier trilogy? Are the Prequel Trilogy toys better because they are most recent? Or the Original Trilogy is just plain the original, no comparison? Just thought I'd ask. If this thread is kind of off topic I apologize but this seemed to me the best place to get a valid answer.

Comment if you please! happy

I'd assume the Prequels would be easier since they're more recent and I imagine it would be hard to find some of the OT stuff from '77 and the Revenge of the Jedi merchandise.

This thread really belongs in JC Community:

I'm giving Blonde_Handmaiden a heads-up before I redirect the thread over to JC Community.

Yet I'd say there's a good chance you posted this in a more appropriate place originally than where it got moved to. Where it would best belong is in Collecting.

But in my layman non-collector's opinion, the prequel trilogy would be easier overall for the reasons posted above, but memorabilia from the original trilogy continues to be produced, and you might have an easier time collecting the original trilogy memorabilia produced in the last year or so than collecting Episode I lines from 1999 (even though I imagine the latter were produced in much greater quantities than the former). Personally, I don't think you need a trilogy dichotomy.

I've collected mostly PT, but that may be because I like that trilogy better. *ducks* Though I haven't kept up in a while, there was both PT and OT stuff out when I did. Probably is easier to find PT though.

The PT is way easier to collect. I can go to any collector store in town and the PT out-numbers most of the sci-fi dvd and vhs selection along w/numerous Star Trek Voyager episodes.

I think pretty much everyone around here will tell you to collect what you like. Right now, prequel stuff is being produced pretty evenly with original trilogy stuff. I would personally recommend you collect your favorite characters, which might mean you cross into both trilogies.

Just don't collect looking to make a gain on your investment, because it just going to happen with the items being produced today.

Probably the Prequel trilogy. You can go just about anywhere and find pegs full of repaint clones, lol

I guess it depends on what you're looking to collect. Action figures are pretty even between the trilogys' in my opinion. Always got clones as well as Vaders and Lukes in each line.

If you're looking at vintage stuff, eBay has quite alot (as well as local collectible shops) becuase quite alot was made really. Everybody is trying to sell their toys and promotional tie-ins, some for alot of money and some for just what they can get. Plus the OT had the original figures and the relaunch in the 90s, so if opened figures are cool to you- there's plenty out there.

But "new media" like RPG games, books and computer stuff is more the new prequel trilogy, I think. Theatrical posters for the new movies are more available too since most vintage ones didn't survive, but I see smaller reprints of the OT too. They look nice to me.

My original Star Wars theatrical poster is alive & well, thank you. (It's in a heavy cardboard tube).

I'd say it's up to what you want to collect as well. If it's OT characters you should be able to find plenty of recent Luke, Leia, Vader, Lando, etc figures. If it's PT characters it should be easy as well. I still see TPM and AOTC figures on the pegs, and there's always online sellers as well.
