Hey guys,
I'm the owner of a MR luke skywalker signature saber(first edition) and something weird has happened to the signature plaque that comes with it.
It has all kinds of black smudges on it, like the metal has corroded in some way. Rubbing it with a dry cloth will clean it a little, but not entirely.
Is this a common problem?, and is there some solution for it?, I'm kinda hesitant to use any cleaners, because I don't want to damage the signed part of it...
Thanks in advance,
Dimitri
P.s. MR doesn't respond to my questions.....

Has anyone with unwashed hands been handling it?
If you have a pic of it that might help as well.

Hi,
I'll add a picture but don't know how to...I can't find an option in the reply menu.

You have to have the picture on a website somewhere - we don't host them here. If you don't have a website, you can sign up at Imageshack or Photobucket for free. Once you have the photo loaded someplace, either see the Markup Codes section in the forum header for the code syntax or look on the Format Bar on the post screen for the image button to add the link to the image to your post.

Here's the link...
The photo of the back shows the problem a bit better. For some reason it's hard to photograph.

It's really hard to see in those shots. However, have you ruled out obvious things like someone else handling it with dirty hands, or dampness/sunshine/cigarette smoke? The latter 3 will cause damage to collectibles. Is this item on display in the open or is it in a case?

Hi,
I really don't know for sure if it has been exposed to anything, I bought it secondhand. I don't remember seeing anything weird when I received it about five years ago. It's not in a smoke environment and it's placed in glass cabinet.
I took a microfiber cloth yesterday and polished it, this took care of about 85% of the smudges. I should have taken a picture of it before polishing, I'm pretty sure it will look dirty in a few weeks/months.
I know there are solvents which will take care of this, but I'm hesitant to risk damaging it.

Unfortunately I don't collect the lightsabers, and the plaque with the MR Jango blasters that I have looks fine so I'm really no help. Maybe someone who collects the sabers will chime in here.
