Thanks Sister_Sola, it took a LOT of hard work to finish it. But I like it too. It's my best Anakin costume yet if I say so myself

Really nice work!
And that reminded me that I wanted to ask something for quite a while.
I'm planning to make the hood out of one piece, that means no seams.
Can I avoid seams when I use a half circle to make the hood?
Sorry for my bad english. I'm still struggeling with all the sewing language

Nope, I don't think so, you gotta have a seam. Although mine isn't visible Because you need a round hood and the fabric is straight, you gotta have a seam.

You never see the seam on a Jedi hood because it's so large and the seam gets hidden in the folds in the back.
Think of a large peice of rectangular fabric. Fold it over. Sew one side that's next to the fold together. That's basically the hood. The edges opposite the fold are the base of the hood that get sewn to the body of the robe. The other side next to the fold will be hemmed and is the opening of the hood.
I think a hood made from a circle wouldn't stay stay up.

I found that the McCalls pattern 4139 works good if you modify it like ambers site. (In place of the old simplicity pattern)
They are basicly the same pattern. Just dont use the hood.

I'm working on version 2.0 of my Jedi Costume for Ep III (though v. 1.0 never got very far off the ground) and I have a question about the Obi: How tall would you reccommend making it? I'm using <a href"http://www.rebellegion.com/jedigarb/tabardobi.html">this</a> pattern for it. It's got the measurements for each of the sections, but not for height. On someone who is 5'8", how big do you think it should be? 4"? 5"?
If you have any input, that'd be great.
Also, I read somewhere else in this thread that someone suggested using a double layer of fabric for it, but that was just the "strip of fabric around the middle" style. Recommendations?
Thanks all

Thats the same one that's getting made for me as well. For that, my friend measured from my waste in back, to about mid thigh (mid thigh is where I want mine to end up.
But it's totally up to you. If you wanted them to be shorter or longer, just make them that big.. (Bigger is better because you can always shorten if you dont like it.)

Are you talking about tabbards? if not, I am very, very confused. I'm wondering about the Obi, you have to scroll down on the page to see it. I couldn't get a picture of just the obi pattern.
I'll try the link again: http://www.rebellegion.com/jedigarb/tabardobi.html

Sorry, Was kinda confused.
For the width of the Obi, I would say 5-6 inches (matching the width of the tabbards) This lets it wrap around nicely as long as you have it double thickness. (dont know what sice min is and I'm 6 feet tall. But I'll measure it for ya when I get all my parts from my friend. What she is doing tho is taking that pattern, and using it to attach the tabbards to (instead of the velcro belt) one less extra piece to bulk up in the center. Then the belt will hide the tie in front.

Hey, it may be a bit late but i'm thinking of going to ROTS in a Jedi costume. I have no experience, yet my mom does, but at the moment were a bit strapped for cash, how much would it cost to create a fairly decent Jedi costume? My mom has suggested that I should hire one, but does anyone know if you can?
