I am almost done with my actual robes. I have to do some hemmming but thats it!! The hood turned out wonderful!! almost excatly like the ones off the movies! I would take a picture of it but I dont now how to get the battery case off my cheapy digital camera! The fabric I used was the best! I found the perfect color for the lining and the outside looks like the robes but isn't too hot! Just thought Id let yall know!

RE: Harry Potter Cloaks/Costuming
Does anyone have any suggestions for what someone like Narcissa Malfoy would wear?
I want to make a costume for june 10 (PoA opens here) and I don't have time for a student costume. I want to go as an adult witch - someone's who's very wealthy, pureblood/slytherin type - like Narcissa.
But I'm stumped on what she'd wear.

How about this for an interpretation of that costume? Here's what I found:

I just got my new tie and scarf for the new movie. I was going to post this as an image, it adjusted the proportions too much!

So who's making a POA costume now that you've seen the movie? I wasn't into the idea at first but now that I saw it, I like uniforms. I may have to consider this one. Too bad there was only two seconds of showing the new Quidditch robes...
BTW...did anyone else catch the Alivan's commercial before the movie? I thought that was clever advertsing.

There was a commercial before the movie? Maybe not all of the theaters played it. I'd have loved to have seen it!

I'm still thinking about making the new Professor McGonagall robe. A similar fabric should certainly be easier to find than that in the first movies. I hate the gathers on the blouse, though.
Our Seattle Star Wars costuming groups (501st & Rebel Legion) also has a number of members making Harry Potter costumes. Actually there are 13 so far. I doubt anyone will be surprised that most of the 501st members make Slytherin.
Since we already did a lot of work for them as a Star Wars group during the showing of Ep II there, the IMAX at the Pacific Science Center invited us to add color to the opening weekend of Harry Potter.
IMAX Harry Potter
We had a lot of fun. One person brought a sorting hat which they gave to me (as Prof M). So I "Sorted" the kids as they waited to get into the theater. I quietly asked each one in which house they wanted to be. One little boy wore a Slytherin T-shirt. So I said to him I thought it obvious into which house he wished to be sorted. He replied, with a grimace, "My Mom got me this shirt. I want to be in Gryffindor"
The theater staff did a nice job decorating with the HP theme. Photos show some of this. What couldn't be shown was Moaning Myrtle in the bathroom. They had one stall closed with a sign taped to it, "Closed by Order of the Ministry of Magic". Inside, they were playing a tape of Moaning Myrtle. Rather amusing and clever!

Heh, yeah I'm a 501st member as well as a Slytherin too.
Looks like you all had a great time. I'm so jealous! None of the local theaters here bothered to make a big deal out of it. Your costumes all look excellent.

iycis, thanks.
In part, I think it's a matter of cultivating a personal relationship. This year's Garrison CO knows staff at the IMAX. We also have a previous relationship having done a lot of work for them around the IMAX EP II.

We did a sorting ceremony at my store on Friday. We had little three question quizzes that the kids took. And a guy doing the voice of the hat, and everyting. Turned out great. I'll hopefully be getting pictures soon.

Actually, the sweaters are different now too. If anyone needs links on where to find the new POA uniform stuff I know a reliable site that is making all of it now. PM me.

The Raleigh Fan Force is planning on doing a Harry Potter IMAX event on July 3rd. Hopefully, I will go as a custom Potions Professor. I already have ideas in mind for my wand. If I can I'll post pictures from the event as soon as they become avaliable
