You can get a white dress shirt just about anywhere. I think I got mine at Walmart or something like that. Its short sleeved otherwise I would get way too hot with the sweater and the cloak all layered up. It doesn't matter what brand you get.

The tie was made pretty much the way spacelady explained it. I got the two colors I needed and cut a lot of strips out and then sewed them together to create the striped pattern needed. The I got a tie from a thrift store for 50 cents and cut it open so that I could use it as a guide to making the exact shape for the tie.

Anyone looking for some more help on their costumes might want to join Madame Malkins yahoogroup list. They've got all the answers on where to get your costume parts and how to make them if you'd rather do that instead.

I definitely recommend a short sleeved white shirt as well. The cloak ALONE is hot.

That was me who made the Chudley Cannon robe (and !yay for you identifying it! most people thought it was Hufflepuff) for my husband. But he made the hardware parts (broom and beater) and all the pads. It was a joint effort.

Here is another picture of it.

Thanks, all. Badger & Lady Sonnet did a wonderful job on the Chudley Canon garb.

Here and here are details of the broom.

Yes, JainaMSolo, the Ref and the Slytherin & Griffyndor Quidditch players were at ComicCon.

Everyone in that photo (except, perhaps, Hagrid & the Slytherin student) will be at ComicCon this year, too.

Great job with all those costumes!! I'm waiting for my tie to arrive, supposedly, they were out of stock and now they're in stock again......it's so confusing!

Hey all no one has posted here in a while but I am starting my costume and I was wondering about the patch... I dont know how to make it but on the new ones it looks like it is embroidered right into the robes so I was wondering what kind of stitches I need to use because i am lost!! I have never embroidered in my life! Thanks!

^ Hey look, another Caitlin! Welcome!

Jedi Kai, Lady Sonnet, glad to hear y'all will be at Comic-Con again this year. Hope I run into you! (I probably won't be in an HP costume, though. The one I wore last year was borrowed and I haven't taken the time to make my own.)

Well, I don't know what the stitch is called, but here's what I do.

Thread your needle, then double the thread and knot it. Start from the back of the fabric. Stick the needle through the fabric only, then use it to catch a few threads that are on the border of the patch. Then go back down through the fabric, then up again, and repeat. This way the stitches aren't visible on the patch, and you can use any color thread because it won't show.

If I'm too confusing let me know, I'll try to explain better.

Jayne, I was planning on embroidering the emblem right into the cloak so Im not quite sure how that would work I don't really get it either but I am a little under the weather seeing as how I just got two teeth pulled yesterday and am still recovering from the anesthesia

What you need is the satin stitch.

http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/embroidery/stitch_pages/emb_satin.html

Personally, I think it would just be easier to buy an already-embroidered patch and sew it in place.

stormtrooperprincess that is a good idea but I really want my costume to be authentic so I want my patch to be as close to the ones in the movie as possible, if time becomes an issue I will probably sew an already made one on temporarily but I really want them to look almost exactly like the ones off the movie! Im just anal about that kind of thing, just who I am. Thanks!
