That's an awesome brooch, and since it's cast I guess it isn't as fragile as ones done with sculpey or other sorts of clay.

Actually, it's rather strong, and shouldn't break during normal wearing.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes, but I think I should clarify what "cold cast" is, for those who did not know.
"Cold cast" = resin with metal powder mixed in, usually at a 50/50 ratio. Not as brittle as Sculpey, but not as hard as normal hard plastics like hard PVC either. The more metal powder, the more brittle it is. Of course nowhere near as hard as die-cast metal.

WHOOHOOO!!!
UPDATE::
Newport boots has got these boots in again this fall!!!!!!!
http://www.newport-news.com/shop/Product.asp?gpcatID=1914&pacatID=1915&subcatID=&catid=4272&superstyleID=242276&productindex=59&firstpagetypeid=&pageindex=48
I don't have any yet, but I'm looking into it, and I'm thinking perhaps these could be dyed to the correct color of Padme's boots. Other than the color, they are exact, and REALLY AWESOME looking!!!

Thanks for that clarification. So that's what we've tried doing on other costumes! LOL My hubby was doing that stuff and didn't know the technical terms.
General, great job!

Thanks. I made some changes to my master, and made a new mold. The new castings are even more accurate!

Nice find! The only thing is color. Sigh, you can't re-dye real suede. Usually they have a finish on them that prevents bleeding and color change. The redying process would ruin them. I ruined a lot of suede on zam to test how true it is. My boots unfortuneately are not a suede. You can tell hers are. Mine are that smooth finished leather. I got them at some random store at the mall by us. Maybe you could call the company and ask them if they know the supplier that may have it in the darker brown.
I got the ankle cut right and the color, but not the finish or the very tippy toe, mine is more square than football shaped by the toesees.
Oh, and the beauty supply shop down the road has $8.00/ea. premade hair buns with combs, they several types. I bought the 22 inch $2.99 fake hair so I could make a braid first. it's close, but not perfect.

Yeah, newport doesn't have them in a darker brown. Hmm I didn't know that about the suede--thank you!! I still may end up gettin a pair of these boots because they are an awesome price, and I would use them for MUCH more than just a costume.

That's why I bought mine Great usage, similar color, but, the real thing is suede-like, but had a weird almost burlap sackcloth look to it in my opinion, then again, C3 was so long ago.

Are these all considered cold cast too?
Got a question, I know there is 1) plain premixed metallic resin, that is just poured into a mold.
Then, there is 2) a slush cast of aluminum powder mixed resin on top and regular resin in back of it
Another is 3) aluminum powder brushed molds with resin poured in back.
They all provide different results.
Oh and Thank you padawan's guide (maggie) I just bought some fake hair and the links located on http://www.padawansguide.com/padme3.shtml helped me understand it a lot better. I didn't buy the buns yet, but I can see how the hair has a lot more body than just a wrapped braid. I am contemplating buying BUNS (hehe) but then again, I see how the hair should be heartshaped and draw down, but am not sure how to achieve this. Still thinking about the pretzel idea in the links.

Question--I got a pair of boots that haven't come in yet, but I get the feeling they may be too short and not come up near my knees. Does anyone know if it's possible to take a pair of boots and "re-apholster" them so-to-speak with suede? (I forgot to ask my friend who's helping me do the leather straps today when I went for my fitting.)
Also, does anyone know a good place to get the leggings? I can't find them in the right color. (And any really quick responses would be much appreciated, I'm supposed to debut this at a con next weekend...yikes!)

BY THE WAY
I would just like to mention that today I bought a pair of boots off of ebay that are almost IDENTICAL to the real ones:
Those are the originals. This is what I bought:
The color is BARELY off, and it lacks the seam up the middle of the front, but everything else is absolutely dead on.
These brown suede knee-high boots are made by J-Crew. I haven't been able to find them anywhere else online, but I'm sure they're out there, or will at least crop up on ebay again.
