Well, the staffing of the store and running out of merchandise was definitely a GenCon problem. From what I understand, LFL had urged them to order more product, but GenCon refused because they thought they'd be stuck with lots of extra stuff. *shakes head*

I agree brokenyolk, I had a blast too, but that was only because of the amazing fellow fans I spent time with!
Totally not impressed with GenCon's handling of this particular event.

RE: CIII Pictures!
I don't think they will give out associate badges to costume contest contestants. Associate badges are pretty much for exhibitors, GenConstaff, Lucasfilm employees, and so forth. You COULD get a volunteer badge however, but you would have to sign up as a volunteer a few months before the convention and agree to work so many hours. Yes, I missed a few events that I would have liked to had seen, and I worked a few hours a day while I was there-but I was able to work in costume, meet some great people, help the convention run smoother-and when I wasn't working I had my volunteer badge and was able to walk right in and out whenever I wanted to through the Associate/VIP/Volunteer entrance.

I would have to agree. The 17 hours that I worked was easily made up for by the badge--not having to wait in line to get in--special line for the store--special lines and seats for some of the shows. I didn't even know about some of the benefits until after! Like the fact that we didn't have to wait in line for the archives. I didn't find that out until working the exit for that room. I had stood in line for it the day before.

RE: CIII Pictures!
Hi all,
Loving all of the photos, particularily the ones from Friday as I did not bring my camera as I was busy workmanship judging in the morning and assisting you contestants in the afternoon.
I will pass on some ideas that you have given me regarding letting contestants into the building without waiting in line during the hours of prejuding. It would not involve being given "upper" level badges. The Associate badge was for staff type of positions such as the costume contest crew as we had to give up two full days to work those shows plus there was some work before the convention.
Keep on creating.

unfortunately we did drive all that way
it took three days, about 33 hours, it was about 6000km round trip, probably wouldn't have taken so long except we liked to go for a swim every morning so didn't hit the road most days till about noon
only four of us drove the rest of our group flew, the car was very full of stuff
we had to of course stop at target on the way back and stock up on toys.

Through the pictures links I have seen on this site... I can only surmise that this was an unequaled show of costuming talent, dedication and originality. The winners clearly show a mastery of these qualities... I have never seen so many wonderful costumes....
I didn't get to see them in person because I had difficulties with my makeup and costume after a shift in the Autograph Hall.... But managed to get out after you all were done..... I am so bummed I missed seeing all those costumes in person!!!!
There's me on the right with another Shaak Ti who was in the contest.... (this girl went all out on doing this costume the right way.....learned alot when I talked with her)
Again.... you all look AMAZING!!!!

jedimelis, you both did great. Thats a helluva costume to take on, but you both did a good job. I remember seein ya there! I passed you, turned to my bro and said "Now THATS dedication!"
My bro (R2DJ) went as anakin, but i didnt dress up. Strapped for cash, you know how it goes. Next convention (if there is one) im going as my original jedi. ^_-

No kidding. That's one costume that's hard to pull off, plus I'd be afraid of the red makeup not coming off well (had a bad experience in high school drama where the red took a lot of scrubbing and ended in a lot of raw facial skin
)
Congrats!
