C3 was my first attempt at costuming. Ok I stuck to plain simple Uniforms because they were easier, but the quality of costumes there blew me away ! Its certainly given me incentive to raise the bar, and because this is such a great forum I know (fingers X'd) that any help I need can be found here.

Dude you should go down to Dragon*Con - waaay more fun than CIII (which was verry fun already)!

A lot easier to run into people there than at the spread out crowd that was CIII.

I hoped to run into you, but there were so many people I never even passed.

I took a lot of pictures of the autograph area but I did manage to get some of the people here. I was in awe at the costumes at the contest. Everyone did such a fantastic job, I'm glad I didn't have to pick the winners!! Click below to see some of my photo's (I still have some to get up yet).

I have just begun to post my images from Star Wars Celebration III;

Since the convention I've been culling and digitally adjusting images, creating gallery graphics, and hand coding html. It takes tyme.

Currently, I have images up from SWCIII DAY ONE in two parts.

I'm interested to hear any comments about navigation. I intend to place commentary for each image. If anyone has information on images in this gallery, please send me a private message with details.

I have many more images to be processed for the 3 remaining days.

Celebration III was a homecoming for me. I felt a certain sense of "brotherly love" seeing other costume creators I have have come to know over the years. Know and respect.

Let's do this again soon.

Be well,
Thomas

You know, with all these pictures of the event, it's like I was there to. I unfortunately couldn't go (exams) but I loved to go and see all the beautiful and inspirational costumes. I just wanted to thank the people who took the time to take pictures and place them here; looks like all of you had a great time happy

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help me out.

I was at CIII in costume Friday and Saturday, and my friend took lots of photos... and then her camera was stolen. So, I've got only a few photos, yet I stopped for hundreds. I was hoping someone out there might have snapped a few of me. On Friday I was a "dark jedi", with long shoulder length hair with a gray streak and a short beard. The costume was kind of a melding of Darth Maul's outfit and a Jedi's. I was wearing a black Jedi belt, complete with food capsules and a M2 Parks Saber. Saturday, I was Dark Lord Sidious, I was wearing the Emperor's robe, which sports a richly textured fabric (we looked a long time to match what we saw on film, finally found it in a warehouse fabric store in LA). Some makeup (shadows and highlights), no facial hair (yep, shaved it all off for the character), and I was wearing my "wild eyes" contacts.

I posed with a bunch of Vader's kneeling at me feet as well as a host of other characters in the Fan Hall Saturday. When I wear the costumes I am in character, and interact with people in character. In a number of photos I posed for I asked people if they favored the Empire. If they said no, they got my hand at their throat pose. If yes, they got a friendly hand on the shoulder, "teaching the apprentice" pose.

Okay, so I'm a bit of a showoff ::sheepish grin::
I love the character and the costume is dead on, and people have fun interacting with me, and many years of convention LARP and Living History has had it's effect on me. I have a ball entertaining the fans and playing with them.

In any case, sadly, I have only a handful of pics to show I was even there. Let me know if you have any photos of me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and see you at the movies/conventions,

DLS

Yeah, the pics we lost were cool: The Dark Lord playing chess with Obi Wan, DLS giving instruction to Anakin in how to "grip" properly. DLS reviewing the clones, and a pic with my hand at the throat of Roger Guyett, the special effects master. The real loss to the camera owner: the pics I took of her and her friend during the meet and greet talking with Nick Gillard. The down side of digital cameras and their massive storage. I had some film I had shot with my camera, but mostly of other costumes, not of my own. I don't shoot many photos when I'm in costume, it breaks character and just does not look right. happy

As far as the Darth Sidious costume, the over robe design is fairly straight forward, it's the fabric that makes it what it is, as well as a ton of attitude. wink

Most of the other robes I've seen are polyester, which just does not drape or move right. Or they are cut too short (they should fall well onto the floor) and the sleeves are too narrow. My favorite trick, draping the sleeves over chair arms just like Ian does in ROTJ. With sleeves of that size, it makes sense to move like that. The other thing is how I carry my arms, in front of me, above waist level. That's what keeps the sleeves from falling beyond my hands, another common sense move. To some degree the costume introduces characteristics and behaviors to the character. With a robe that long you just don't run across the floor, it's natural to move slowly, with deliberation.

Another favorite trick, is to stand right behind the doors of the elevator. It really freaks people out who try to rush in to come face to face with The Dark Lord himself.

The only problem with the costume: The fabric collects cat hair like mad, and I just don't see Lord Sidious owning a cat, unless it was really really nasty!

Thanks again so much for the compliment, it's nice to know my performance is seen and appreciated.
