Gotta concur with a lot of the comments made recently. I own a VERY nice and VERY costly Vader outfit myself. I ended up at our local premiere in Southern California next to one of the Supreme Vader suits and was able to compare parts and had to say that the Supreme suit fell drastically short of expectations. For the money spent one would be well on thier way to affording parts for a majorly screen accurate Vader if parts were purchased from the well known fan vendors who have spent exhaustive hours of research to make thier parts super detailed and accurate. Ironically the guy in the supreme suit looked at my suit and scoffed and said not bad for an amatuer. My suit by the way is real quilted leather and ran about 5 grand total to put together several years ago, just goes to show you it all depends on personal taste. As for some of the extreme comments from the 501st about appropriate Vaders I would like to remind folks its all in fun for most of the population and if you want to wear an outfit, go ahead...better to live the dream than to be sidelined by others who dont want you to have fun. I am a few inches too short for an accurate Vader but at events have had the general public prefer my suit since I carry the outfit and attitude off and just have fun with it. Helps that I lift weights and dont look like a twig in it also...lol. Dont be put off if you're too short, its a free country, not run by the Empire. There are plenty of non 501st events where one can have fun in a less than perfect outfit, if it aint fun...why do it?

No suit that takes grands to assemble is going to be mass produced by Rubies gimme a break. but the helmet at least is very very good for US-130 bucks. Its just as big as my friends DP deluxe but pales in comparison in the details but I suppose if you where to fiberglass the inside and give it a pro paintjob from an airgun and metal billet and such it would look alot better.

Another good point to remember( and I can say this having been a costumer for over ten years and have profesionaly industry experience making props and costumes for films...yes ones youve seen from hollywood)And I know others will back me up on this cause its frustrating as hell...no matter how cheap or expensive your costume is or how accurate you THINK it is...a HUGE portion of the normal world will still ask you if you're a Ghostbuster. There is nothing wrong with striving for the most accurate suit you can get/and or make, sometimes it's best to at least start with something cheap and store bought so you can at least live the dream till you can do better if thats what youre shooting for. I can't count the times i've had people come up and critisize my costume and you know what I say..."thank you..now where is yours?" I think it is totally ridiculous to be discuraged from wearing a costume because someone else thinks there is a hieght requirement on entertainment. Look at many of the Vader suits posted RIGHT HERE ON THIS BOARD... a HUGE percentage of them look horrible from a pro standpoint...fat Vaders, skinny Vaders...do you think they care? Hell no! They are getting to wear the suit they want!!!! By all means take advise to get the suit you want and can at this time afford, but NEVER back down because someone tells you dont look right for the character! Just look at any costume board and theres photo proof FEW ever look totally accurate.

As I said, it was *personal opinion*, not the will of the Empire. Vader, to me, is an iconic figure, one of a kind. (Even if his costume varies in every movie) I meant no offense to our legions of Vaders out there.

But if you're dressed as Vader and somebody asks you if you're a Ghostbuster... better check a mirror!

I too am a 501st member, TIE Pilot. I've seen pics. of this costume, read posts about it and I've seen alot better Vader costumes out there. Ones ppl had to make themselves rather then just buy the whole thing. That costume would be good for someone if they wanted to go that route, but like stated before, the 501st won't let you in.

Slightly off-topic:

Why doesn't the 501 let Dark Side Anakins in? I mean they serve and build up the Empire. So what is the problem with them?
Jango Fett is accepted, although he never worked for the Empire. If we are precise, he even was an enemy of the Empire. He fought on the side of the Seperatists!
And Darth Maul was not alive, when the Empire was founded. So why doesn't the 501 accept Dark Side Anakins?

just a couple of things...

I am a Vader costumer. I wear a CA helmet. I feel it is the best helmet for my costume. If I were to buy a helmet from JB or BAT, I sure would not wear it for costuming. Like it was said before, those are works of art!! They are not for wearing...unless you want to of course wink

I am part of the 501st. I know what the "rules" are, and I do abide by them. But I costume as Vader for the fun of it! For example, at C3, I had 2 little 5 year olds come up to me, and ask me for my autograph. How cool is that? Being Vader gives me a really good feeling when fans give me compliments about my suit. While at my local theater for the premier, someone said "Vader better go on a diet." Okay, I admit it, I'm not the skinniest Vader, but I am not big either. I just shrugged him off, and contiuned to have fun!

Lastly...mosy of us have some form of a finacical budget. We only make a certain amount of money, therefore, we can only buy what we can afford. So, if you want to, go out and buy the Rubies costume. But if you can afford it, put together a quality Vader costume! It shouldn't matter what kind of costume you have, as long as you HAVE FUN!!!

Since I had been planning on purchasing one of these until hearing most of you say that it is crap, what are some good resources for someone in the market to make up a really good vader costume?

Thanks.

I have talked to my Garrison CO about Ep. III Anakin being accepted and it is going to go to a vote among the 501st members soon. Only then will it's fate be decided.

I am personally a supporter of it becoming a canon costume of the 501st. But as of right now it is in debate amongst the higher ups and like I said will soon be brought to a vote.

I personally hope it will be accepted and I will cast my vote for it.

And why do they allow Maul and Jango in? Because the 501st is the bad guys. We're pretty much anything that was against the Republic and the Jedi. Last I checked the seperatists were pretty much gone by the time the Galctic Empire was actually formed.

Maul was a Sith the 501st accepts Siths. Jango was a Bounty Hunter and the 501st accepts Bounty Hunters. They were both against the Republic and the Jedi.

There are costumes that are accepted by both the RL and the 501st like Clone Troopers, Tuskens, Jawas, Boushh and I believe Senate Guards.

So Anakin's fate hasn't been decided, as far as I know it's in a debate along with Assajj Ventress and some others. But it will be voted on soon enough.

Everybody arguing... wah wah wah...
Won't pretend I know anything about anything. I'm trying to get into fan films cuz it seems like a bunch of fun. I'm NEVER going to use a Vader costume... that's my solemn promise. WHY? because:
I don't want my fan films to clash with the original.
Cliches are idiots (95% of the population)
There is enough universe to play in and still use your OWN CREATIVE GENIUS ( AKA not taking Lucas's main characters )

In the event this IS what you want to do, why does it matter? No one will be able to tell the difference... besides, any crappy costume will look good against episode 3's entire CG wardrobe ( pooey on cheap buget films )

Wanna see a GOOD film? Try Underworld... NO CG!

WOW! What a first post! Am I missing something?
I was just responding to one of the above posts about why Evil Anakin isn't allowed in the 501st. So what does your post have to do with that?

Maybe you should make sure you have a point in your post valid to mine or anyone elses for that matter.

In regards to the Supreme Vader, it's not that quality and in my opinion not worth a thousand bucks.

I could have sworn I saw CG in Underworld! LOL

Not joining in the debate, just adding that there was a touch of CG in UNderworld, but only to aid in smoothing out the transition between Human and Werewolf. The wolf parts were animatronic, as were many of the stages between, but to smooth them out, there was some computer aide employed.
