Here you go!
Supreme Edition Vader
It's not that bad, but I'm all for fan-made costumes being better though.

RE: Darth Vader Supreme Costume
Hi all, not sure if this is the right place for this. If not please move/delet as the mods/admin deemed fit.
I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who made a vader costume from scratch and hope to join the 501st. His is a Rubies helmet.
Upon really close inspection(by me, who has been studying every close up and high res pic I'm able to find on the net and in books), flaws can obviously be found.
His shoulder bells are nowhere near accurate(made by cutting up rubber balls), his chestplate is too small and not glossy enough(made from placemats and sprayed with hardware shop spray paint), his shin guards lack detail (made from placemats and sprayed with hardware shop spray paint as well), the paint job on his chest box is rough(hand painted) and he's too short(5' 8"). I can go on and on but you get my point.
However, to the average Joe, his costume looks awesome, and whenever he appears in public and starts playing the breathing sound through a walkman with speakers strapped to his belt, he gets swamped by people wanting to take pics with him.
Would a costume like that be admitted into the 501st? Point to note is that currently his is the only fan made and fan owned Vader costume in the country (if there're others they're not making themself known), although some corporate entities have brought in other Vader costume for special promotions.
I know this should really be directed at the 501st, but I was hoping to get some unofficial feedback to help him decide if its worth applying or not...

They will ask for pictures of it
Then we can tell you.
It depends on which Rubies he has, I think. There is a Rubies fiberglass helmet which is based on the Don Post Deluxe. It costs $600 USD, and looks quite good (for a liscensed helmet).

Thanks for the explanation of the 501's rules. I did not know that.

No prob! I'm really hoping Ep. III Anakin gets accepted as canon!
Plo: As for your friends Vader costume they will want pictures. And then it will be up to Legion membership whether or not to approve him. I can assure you though that his is not the only fan-made Vader in the country, many people make their own costumes. And a lot of blood, sweat and tears go into them. I personally prefer fan-made to licensed, as the licensed ones just aren't made with the same love and dedication as the fan-made ones.
I will always strive to make my costumes myself or get help from other fans. The costumes just look and feel that much better to know that you made it! Tell your friend congrats on striving to make it all himself!

The legion membership officer is really watching the Sith Lord applications. If he sees a Darth Vader or other Sith Lord that doesn't look right he flags it for further review. He may request more pics of higher resolution or ask the Garrison membership officer or Commander to meet with the applicant and check the quality of the costume.
My suggestion is to not have him get turned down if the costume is not close to accurate. I give KUDOS to him for trying but the Sith Lord costumes are being HEAVILY scrutinized now and it is unlikely it will get approved.
I hope this helps.

First of all, not everyone gives a $#@! about the 501st. No offense, but some people just don't have the time, money, or equipment for that kind of accuracy. I think that costume looks great! I'd buy it in a second if I could afford it and my wife would let me. I'd have a blast on Halloween, my son would love it, and I could pass it on to him if it survived the years.
But alas, I'm to skinny to be Vader anyway...

I was just simply responding to the questions asked. And when i wasn't sure on one of them I asked my CO to chime. The responses were relevant to the questions asked about the 501st. So obviously these people do give a $#@!. So do we, that's why we were responding to questions asked.

What do you use as the armour? Which helmet do you use?

Hey Darthmood thanks for posting that link. That gives me a much better idea (still haven't seen it in person *shrug*)
I'll have to say that for the price it looks nice.
Sister_Sola- I don't know either. I just started this thread as a simple question.

No problem. Be wary of the chest armor though it's very flimsy! As in you can bend it with two fingers flimsy.

So is the general concensus that the Supreme Vader costume isn't worth it?
I SUCK at making anything but really want to get a Vader suit to wear/prop up in my house. If this is a decent outfit I wouldn't mind shelling out the money for it (where can you buy it anyway??) but if it sucks I'll keep trying someplace else.

O.K. I think the general concensus is if you want a costume for haloween and parties, then this costume is the dogs bollocks, but, if you want something for anysort of costuming group or official appearance - go movie accurate fan made.
Its up 2 u to decide if you think its worth it.
