On a more on-topic note, Erv has posted more of the Crystal Focus boards (v3).
Enjoy! Looking forward to seeing some new saber videos out there demonstrating a bunch of saber sound fonts. I'll continue to build more sound fonts as I get time, but not only is Balance of Power Episode III taking up a lot of my free time... well... I think NINE configurable sound fonts is plenty for now!
That's not even including other fonts that are made by Erv, Jonitus, etc.

I just completed my first Graflex Retrofit. The blade is removable. Traffic slowed down when I was swinging it around last night.

Hey guys,
I just got back into the "swing" of things and built two mini-sabers over my free weekend. I may have found a new blade tip!
I found it at my local O.S.H. store in the hardware section. It is called a "Round Furniture Tip 1 Inch". It's made of a translucent white plastic. It is flat and has a very long shoulder that fits perfectly into thinwall 1" PolyC. It fits so well, I didn't need to use glue. There's enough friction holding it in place. Okay, so after typing that I realize how ridiculous that sounds. I'll go get the glue. In the meantime, here are some photos:
And just for kicks, I threw that tiny short blade onto one of my Luxeon Star/o sabers to see how it looks.

Cool AOI... you can use some reflective tape that can be purchased at OSH for "mirror film" as well...

Those are some short sabers, Aoi.
Are you using a single wrap of film on those? That was just my guess. You'll get a more evenly lit blade the more wraps you have. Of course, it takes a little more work to install something like a quad wrap compared to a single wrap, but I personally like the effect better.
Nice find on the tips. I've got a fellow member of the 501st casting me some more rubber like models, but the glue keeps melting the stuff. I'm looking into different casting resin and different glue. I'll post when I find out a winning combo.
Disturbance,
Nice Graflexes. I finally got to see a green Hyperblade at C4. It was nice to finally see them in person.

Yeah, they're extra short blades for the kiddies. Actually, they are scraps from 8-footers from US Plastic.
I'm acutally not using luxeons to power them (they are just 10mm E-bay high brightness LEDs). They are a single wrap of your film, Corbin. I experimented with more layers, but I think I like the single wrap the best. It might just be that my LED's (both the 10mm ebayers and the luxeon 1-watts) aren't as powerful as the popular 3watts and up.
I completely forgot to put a reflective sticker in them . Thanks for reminding me!
EDIT: Anywho, I don't put my sabers through much abuse, but I wanted these little sabers to be kid-proof. I think the furniture tip should hold out pretty well (compared to the ancient acrylic half-balls I'm still using ). If anybody else can find a few, it wouldn't hurt to give them a test run (they are only about $0.40 each). The only downer is that these only fit well in thinwall (1/16" wall) blades. I didn't really see a suitable sized one for thickwall blades (next size down is 3/4").

For extra "kid-proof"-ness, try a few careful wraps of clear packing tape around the blade and tip. So far, I use this for Balance of Power, and it GREATLY lessens tips flying off or worry of such events.
For me, it was less about me caring if the tips were lost or repairs were needed... but of the safety of audience members and cast members!

Oh, I do remember reading that somewhere in this huge thread. That's a great idea!
Thanks for the "tips". Oh man my puns are bad.

Thanks. Wait till you see what's next. What you saw was just the tip of the iceberg. C4 was a fun and interesting experience.

Just thought I'd share a pic of some new prototype pieces I've been messing around with. They are Modular Hilt System thin neck sections. Here's a pic of some sabers I put together with them:
I know that the bottom one looks kinda weird with the second thinner area towards the pommel, which is actually a tapered emitter that I used as a pommel to get the length I wanted. However, this particular setup is the most comfortable design I've assembeld with MHS parts so far. It makes it feel like the saber is much thinner than it actually is, making dueling extremely comfortable.
These should be available through The Custom Saber Shop before Christmas, I'm hoping. If not, then shortly thereafter.

Hey guess what?! I'm not dead!
Saber is done except for some painting. Works fine and dandy except I can't go through my saber banks for some reason. So I'm living with just using the one sound set at the moment.
Definitely been a learning experience with this. I want to build my own hilt again for the next one because I'm not really a fan of screwing the parts together. It limits what I can do with switch placement (twisting of wires being a problem). So next one will be slip fit pieces held together with set screws. I do love the saber though. I'll post some pictures tomorrow and possibly a video on youtube.

You know I think I've asked you this before Novastar, but what length and what blade do you use for your videos? I'm using a CSS thick walled blade at 40 inches long and I'm getting a real bad dim spot about 2/3 of the way up. I know shortening the blade will decrease that a bit though. Wish I could remember what lense angle I used as well. Hmm.
