not very often there anymore but I'm pleased to announce Crystal Focus V4 !

butter side of the toast (well... with caviar now)

the other side

so, for the news :
- no ETA yet, I'm currently assembling 50, plus 50 to follow. First batch should be ready by the end of april, some parts are missing but are on the way to my lab.
- I'm now mastering pretty well hot air soldering, takes me less than 1 minute to solder a motion sensor. Result is really close as if it's been soldered by a reflow oven.
- V4 is using a micro SD ! faster to write to them, and smaller board (1.5 mm narrower). The board is thinner too. This shoudl be greatly appreciated cause room is always missing in a saber hilt.
- new goodies : RGB support. Option to drive either a Red OR Green OR blue LED on a endor PCB. No color mixing cause CF does not have 3 luxeon drivers but just one. The optics are not there for the tri rebel but I demonstrate the possibility of the "concept" on my youtube channel
- new RandomX selection mode for swing and clash sounds. 99% Ensures that you don't get twice the same sound in a sequence.
- new Timed selection mode for swing and clash sound. The sounds are ordered from the shortest to the longest, the selection is made on a adjustable time scale, so that appropriate sound is played. Randomness is achieved by how the gestures a chained
- multiple blater sounds (4).
- second "force" sound, resulting of a combo of the aux button + clash (force fx 1 was aux button + equivalent of a swing). Allows to get a "special big clash" effect, like a HUGE clash sound.

Some videos to watch
CF V4 Roadmap part I
CF V4 Roadmap part II
CF V4 Roadmap part III

Nothing about sabers, but I've also finished my voice amp + fx with static burst. Coded in 4 days, not that bad.
Voice Core demo

I've also finished my bench tool to make programming and testing CF boards easier and much faster

Micro-SD! Man that would so come in handy at the moment. My board is just slightly too large for what I wanted to do. So I've spent that last two days machining a new part. And definitely ain't an opportune time for it to be released on my part. Blew all my money on Hotel and registration for Botcon.

But eventually, I will get my hands on this new board of yours. Glad it's getting easier to put them together Erv. And the new options sound great!

Hey all, new to this board, but not new to Star Wars! Anyway, I'm looking into getting a "real" saber. "Real" meaning I want something that looks/sounds authentic and can be used for lots of dueling, also a removable blade would be nice. I've been looking at the HyperDyne blades and they look nice, I'm new to all of this so any tips on perhaps getting my own hilt and ordering an HyperDyne setup to fit inside it? Plus I'm not TOO tool savvy. Thanks again, any tips/links/tutorials would be appreciated.

Hi Gunk. .... (!). I never thought I'd say that. "Hi Gunk."

Anyhow... well, you can check out this video (among others out there demonstrating sabers of many types):
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7OQRAbt5z2Q
http://youtube.com/watch?v=2iaDEhfd4yo

There are more, but that gives you the idea of some of the videos on my youtube ID.

Also... I'm trying to free up some time to get out there to the makers faire (http://www.makerfaire.com)... which is taking place VERY soon in CA, in the San Mateo area. I realize that most of the folks posting here are from all over the world, but... if you're in town, stop by. happy

Hopefully I will be there doing SOMEthing random and saber-oriented. happy

Damn, nice work man. Do you have a CNC machine because the lines appear flawless? Very impressive.

Well my post is not a for sale thread. I am just showing off the work I did for a customer. I know this forum frowns on using it as a sales means. I just spent a few months working on it and wanted to show it off.

Oh, and yes I do have both a CNC lathe and mill.

I'm jealous. I just have a mini mill and mini lathe and cannot get lines that perfect. So... ah... where do you live and what are the dimensions and weight of your lathe and mill? wink

I said it before, I'll say it again... "GREAT WORK KID, that was one in a million!!" heheheh

Seriously, very nice replica Ace. It appears to be bar none (duh). SOOOOOO surprising coming from Ace. Like we'd expect it to be anything other than basically "Uber". heheheh

Ace is about as meticulous with machining as I am with these gosh darn sound fonts. But for me... most all the credit goes to Ben Burtt!! At least for 50% of the fonts, since at least half are "classic sabers". Granted, things like Ancient saber and the Zen font (inspired by Jonitus' request) are my own work.

Hey cool... speaking of AceRocket (that's Erik)... he recently put me in contact with this gal from a company called Revision3. They were trying to do a quick & dirty "nerdy" saber construction vid, so... somehow it ended up working out that *I* ended up going up there to S.F. to get the stuff done.

Novastar shows a basic saber on Revision3!
http://revision3.com/popsiren/birdback/

Check the video at about 23:33.

Now, obviously some things had to be cut out of the video for brevity's sake (such as the optics, LED, how it mounts, resistor and/or battery solutions, other tiny details), but... it was fun, and who knows, maybe it will open more doors for me to get back in there and start talking about TCSS, Ultra, Erv, etc. etc. etc.

I also brought Dani Cox along ("Alexandra Novastar" from BOP II), in hopes that Rev3 would allow HER to get some facetime on the camera, but, alas--they didn't allow it. Which kinda sucks since if ANYONE'S a star--it's Dani. She was the one with the most talent over ALL of us in BOP II--that's my story and I'm stickin' to it. happy

The Flange III green saber also pops up out of nowhere, heheh... happy

One funny thing is... later near the end of her segment (while she's outside near the water), she mentions "champagne bottles" and how some people have used parts from them... LOL.... well, that PROBABLY came from a little blurb I mentioned when showing her the Flange III sabers, since... well... the green Flange III *DOES* use a little emblem-like piece from a champagne bottle, hahahahah!

Anyhow... take care... and have fun with your lightsabers!

Man did *I* look like a geek, hahahahahah! happy

Hi all.
It's been a while since I posted, but I just wanted to say congrats to Ace for the great saber and to Erv' for the new driver board (I need to get at least one! LOL).

Hi again
Sorry for the double post, though it's been a few days since my last post, so I'm not sure if that still qualifies. LOL

Anyway, I just wanted folks to know that the latest version of my LED saber driver is just getting finished. They are much smaller than the old boards, which were 1.25 wide x 1.625 long. These new ones will be 0.8 wide x 1.1 long, so they'll fit into much smaller areas.
Also, in addition to all the original features like ramp up/down, flash on impact and lockup, these new boards also can provide a constant shimmer to the blade when on. It's subtle enough to not be annoying, but still noticable enough to give the blade some "life", so to speak.

Hopefully they'll work well. I haven't received the actual board yet, but I just wanted to let people know about them. I'll post something once I have one hooked up.

Nice, looking forward to seeing one in action. Will the shimmer be a random sequence/frequency (please say yes)?
