Updated - SHAWL or CAPE fabric leads

1. To start utterly from scratch, consider using "English Cotton Netting" or "Swiss Cotton Netting" used in heirloom sewing. Silk Tulle is probably the original.

2. It appears that Wal*Mart re-named the “Rose Traditions” curtain fabric.

The "Home Trends" "Victorian Roses" shower curtain is available online without a mark-up from the retail in-store price:

http://www.centralchef.com/StoreFrontProfiles/DeluxeSFItemDetail.aspx?sid=1&sfid=123094&c=0&i=225091666

The shower curtain is set on a cream-colored mesh fabric and has a scalloped edge at its base. The edge might even be already embroidered in the green and yellow-green thread: the detail shot is too small to be sure.

3. A similar 3-cluster embroidery is on another "Home Trends" shower curtain fabric.

Wal*Mart (Chiefland, Florida) has "Home Trends" Athena fabric shower curtain. The size is 70 inches by 72 inches in length (178 cm X 183 cm). The UPC number is 7829814763 and there is a model or design number of 2178839.

The background fabric is more solid and is not a net, but the roses are in the three-cluster pattern and are embroidered.

A scan of the fabric for the second curtain is here:
http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb188/Falls_The_Shadow/?action=view&current=CroppedMeadow_Athena.jpg

4. Lastly, I just saw this on E-bay: it appears to be the "Victorian Roses" curtain under another name.

Thank you so much for all you're hard work! And thanks for such a fantastic discount! It would have taken me a while to save up for all that ribbon but thanks to you I got it sooo much earlier.

You rock!

Pardon me for asking as I didn't really follows the thread and infos here blush

So if either Curtain is used for the dress, we're suppose to dye it the more yellowish color right?

Will the roses color be changed too if this is done, especially with Dylon Multi-Purpose Dye (aka Stove Top)?

I know I had seen similar lace in various colors being sold at the Cloths District here ever since AOTC came out tho' not lately but as usual with all the exclusive laces and embroideried/beaded fabrics there, it cost a bomb as probably the Silk kind. doh!

Yes, you will need to dye the curtain since it comes in an ivory color. I picked up a curtain for my version 2.0 dress at K-mart for $20. It's the same 3-cluster roses on ivory tulle.

If you try to dye it without protecting the flowers, it will dye the flowers. And sadly, they will turn brown. I tested this on a tiny scrap of material. You can you a Resist solution on the flowers to prevent this. For my version 1.0 I used Rit's Resist in a bottle (its made for doing tye-dye and is in the craft department at Wal-mart). It worked nicely, but its very time consuming since it has to be painted on every flower. You need to make sure that the entire flower is covered. You also CANNOT use a hot dye bath, because that is what takes off the resist. That is why I used the RIT in a bottle (not heated)to dye it. After I found the right color, I put the dyed cape in a hot water bath to dissolve the resist.

Hope this helps!

Another product you could use to protect the roses is Magik Batik resist. It's liquid until imersed in hot water--then it becomes solid. To remove it, just rinse off with cold water. As the name suggests, it's used for making batiks.

I have not tried this, but I asked Jessica at CIV how she dyed her cape fabric without effecting the flowers. She said they airbrushed the netting from the back side. I guess the dye or paint just penetrated the netting enough to dye it without totally seeping through to the front of the embroidered flowers.

After a year or so of wanting to do this dress, I have finally decided that I will. A LONG term project, but I want to start collecting items/info for this when I eventually start to work on it.

I like the curtain fabric for sale in the link posted a page back - Victorian Roses flower fabric shower curtain - has anyone bought this one? Is it a good match? It's not often someone posts a link to a website that ships what I want internationally, so that would be wonderful if the fabric is a really close match happy

Drat, I missed out on the group ribbon order sad Oh well, perhaps there will be another one in the future, seeing as it will be a while before I get to that stage anyway happy
