Blade Confusion...
I've heard that a carbon fiber blade is strong and durable. On the other hand, I've also heard that bamboo wrapped in duct tape is durable. Then, I heard that graphite golf clubs are strong and durable.
Which is the blade is the best for heavy lightsaber combat?

Siloflex, It's an UNBREAKABLE black plastic pipe found next to the black iron pipe at Lowe's. don't ask the idiot in the vest, he knows nothing. A 5 foot stick of Siloflex (by Silverline) is only $3.56. Don't get the roll kind, it will not straighten out. Do not confuse this with PVC.

If it's unbreakable how would you cut it? I'm guessing you mean shatterproof.

"Unbreakable" isn't really the same thing as "indestructable."

Exactly... no blade will withstand anything. Any of those will be fine. Add PolyCarbonate to the list. All are good, but not "indesructable".

I've been using it in full-contact SCA combat for 10 years now. It will cut, wiseguy, but it will not break. If pounding on someone in full metal armour won't do more than mar it, it will work well enough for you guys.

RE: Blade Confusion...
Rattan. That's the stuff. The battle blades in my new hardware sabres are going to be rattan. It's a relative of bamboo but it's stronger. In the Philippines,
escrima
sticks are traditionally made of the stuff. There's a place in Huntington Beach that sells 28" canes for less than $3 each. I bought a set of two translucent blue acrylic blades when I bought the aluminum "practice sabers" I will be using as a base this time. Those are for kata and pictures. And I will be building foam-covered PVC blades for contact sparring.
You do *not* want to use rattan for contact sparring. Just like you don't want to use a bokken for contact sparring, and instead you use a shinai which is designed not to be able to do real damage. It'll raise a welt but it won't break bones. Gotta be careful about that...

My fan film's gonna be a battle, so I can't assure anyone we'll be doing the careful staged kinda fighting. So... lightweight stuff that won't hurt too much is the way to go for me.

RE: Blade Confusion...
Rattan is the preferred choice for swords in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval re-enactors group). It does not splinter when breaking. Instead it does what we call "brooming" and gets all floppy. I've got blades of that as well as siloflex. Rattan will take a serious pounding. Heavy weapons fighters are not pulling any shots. If they weren't wearing armour, they'd wind up in the hospital.
