I'm fine with Saturday AM. Good point on getting in early. It could be trickey. The only thing I could think of is meeting up as a group outside the convention center and someone letting us in as a whole unit early. (But I don't see that hapening).

Aww Kathy I don't want you to miss your photo shoot! You've worked too hard on that costume to bypass it.
I personally would prefer the photo to be on Sunday. I don't have any real reasons as to why though. I would like to take pictures with R2s though.

That's why I was wondering if we'd all meet somewhere outside the centre first, and got escorted in past queues through a "back door, huh?"
If it's going to be a 9am thing, Sunday is fine for me too. I wouldn't want kay_dee to miss the Tie Pilot photo!

Sunday morning works for me as well.
As for the lines. I don't think we should compare this celebration to the last one. This venue is larger, hopefully so the rooms will be too, and the managers swear they've learned from the mistakes of last time. From what was said at Comic Con, pits of the place will be open 24/7 - the shops for example.
I will ask the R2 guy about the room size and it's accessibility at 9am.
Are we agreed on 9am Sunday?

Sunday's okay with R2 group. Room is larger. Builders club must be close with organizers because he's also offered to help walk us in IF necessary, though he doesn't anticipate any problems with lines. As I mentioned already, parts of the con are going to open 24 hours a day. That fact alone should lessen lines as EVERYONE won't be attempting to enter at one time, nor be kicked out at one time.
I've heard horror stories from earlier cons, but they PROMISE they've learned from their errors.
And it's West Coast baby! Where the sun always shines (though rays may be filtered by smog). I anticipate a more relaxed sensibility. And my goodness have you seen the location! I was trying to get a feel for how long of a walk 8 tenths of a mile would really be when I noticed the Staples center itself is almost 1/2 a mile long. It is literally more than twice the size of the Indianapolis Convention center - 400,000 sqft of space - claiming 950,000 sq ft of space.
Even San Diego is only 525,000 sq ft. And I felt no real crush at last year's comic con which claimed 126,000 attendees last year. There are a lot of Star Wars fans, but C3 only claims 30,000 in attendance. Also considering size of local garrison/clubs/force who'll be volunteering and the volunteers from elsewhere helping out, I really think this experience will be completely positive. And if we are stuck outside in a line, we can form up and pose right on the sidewalk! No shivering or flu-catching snowstorms to worry about, and the entire area is littered with gorgeous facades. It's smack in the middle of downtown LA.
All we have to do is agree on the date.
Sunday at 9am?

Day - can we all do Sunday? I know there were people who were pulling for days other than Sunday, but can those people shuffle their costume wearing schedule? Do you know if there were still any plans in the works for some kind of 'alternate to the parade' event on Sunday morning? (There were rumors of some kind of gathering that might take place). And FYI, the Anakin group plans to take photos Sunday morning with some of the Padmes. I'm not sure if any of our Leias have a conflict with that.
Basically, if people can let us know if they are all able to do this on Sunday that would be great. If it turns out people just can't adjust their costume wearing schedule and really need to do this on Saturday, I can skip my Tie Pilot photo shoot Saturday just so we can include more people 
Lines:I think planning on lines is safe. We can always hope there won't be lines and that we'll be allowed to walk right in to the door of the Builders room, but we should plan this as though there will be a long line outside. (Even small cons have lines in the morning).
Locations?I'm not sure what part of the convention center the Store/Exhibit hall is in. But if it is in a different section of the con, there is a chance that other wings could be totally blocked off during the non-convention hours. See Convention Map.
Is there a way you can find out if the R2 builders are in South, Concourse or West? Is there a way they'd know where the Convention Store is located? If let's say, 15-20 of us show up that morning outside the convention, can he come out and really get us all in w/o us having exhibitor/volunteer passes?
Where to meet? Here are my ideas. *If* we can get confirmation of Mr. R2 (is this Mike btw?) being able to come outside and usher us in, I think we should plan to congregate at whatever door opening that has the 24 hour store access. (not sure yet if that is South or West) Or alternately, if Mr. R2 already knows what entrance he's going to be going in and out of, meet him at that entrance. Perhaps plan to meet between 8:30 and 8:40 (no later!) outside the con at our pre-determined entrance? If we get in early without escort, then we can all walk in together before 9:00 and find the builders room. If we need an escort, we will all be waiting there for him.
Planned alternate location - If in the unfortunate event we just can't get into the convention early enough at least we will all be together and we should have a planned "b" location outside just in case late stragglers want to find us if we've already wandered over. One idea is the area outside the West Hall. There are steps with flag poles, and there are also palm trees on the sidewalk.
Contact Alli - how would you feel about having everyone interested in doing the photo shoot with us PM you or me (probably you, since you have the R2 contact - but I could be a back-up to help with phone calls) with their phone number? That way if there are any last minute changes, we can let all our Leias know what is going on.

I just checked the info that came with my registration pack. The entrance for the 24 hour store seems like it might be different than rest of the convention. I have a feeling that just because the store is 24 hours that we may not be able to get into the other parts of the convention early to wander around. (In other words, for security reasons, the entire convention center may not be open 24 hours a day)
Mail Out Registrants: You may enter the convention Center at either the South Show Gate in front of the South Tower Lobby, or the West Show Gate in front of the West Tower Lobby.
Celebration Store: Entrance to the store will be located at the North Terrace of the West Hall. (Looking at the map, I'm not clear where this north Terrace is at the West Hall. But it seems like they are saying it is not the main lobby entrance).

I hope I'm not imposing, but would our royalty like to have some Rebel Fleet Trooper escorts for the shoot?
I'm coordinating the RFT shoot for the Rebel Legion, and also a press photographer. We were going to do our group shoot on Saturday, but if you wouldn't mind having some RFT's around, I think we could rearrange and be there Sunday.
Please let me know if this might be a possibility.

Obey Wann - if we are relying on someone to sneak us past the line to get into the R2 room, I'm not sure how many extra people will be allowed. I plan to bring my husband as a photographer with his digital SLR, and will be posting his photos at high res on Image Event so everyone can download them.
This is a question that hopefully Allison can field for us (how many non-leais can they allow in early.)
If we end up not being able to get into the convention by 9:00 and have to do this outside, then I don't see why we can't have more people join us as photographers, or hop into the photo once our main group photos are done.

We have not set the day just yet! If people can't do this Sunday we can still do it Saturday. Can you make it Sat instead? Like I said, I really don't have to do the Omega Wing pic on Saturday. I don't want to wear that costume all day actually.

Sunday is bad for me because the SOTS/AOI/COW photos are in the morning and I am in the costume contest wearing Padme Aqua Georgette and then off to the RL Mixer at night. Leias are welcome at the AOI photo, it is female SW costumers, not just Padme's but we will be with a bunch of ROTS Anis and Obis so Padme might be appropriate but all SW costuming females are welcome
