As usual, the best thing about D*Con was seeing my TFN/Live Journal/Rebel Legion friends! Kreleia - I'm so glad I ran into you (or you into me!) on Saturday night. I'm sorry I didn't place your face to your screen name right away. And I'm so happy Obi-Dawn was able to make it out this year and I actually saw you both nights you were at the convention!
gofasterstrawberry - Yay, you signed up to TFN! I adored your Padme funeral gown. The custom dye and devore was to die (or dye -heheh) for! If only I knew how to work that kind of textile magic. Not to mention all the ruching on the bodice.
Congrats to BurntTheMacaroni on her win in the Masquerade! I'm still bummed out I never got to see luminousbeing78's pink diamonds outfit. I looked in both the Hyatt and Marriott and never ran into her
I had fun at D*Con as usual, but for some reason ended up missing a lot of things and people I'd been looking forward to seeing. I missed a panel due to logistical crowd control problems and a last minute room change (grrrr). I also missed a party I'd been planning on for an entire year due to crowd problems and not getting there quite early enough. This is the first year I've had these frustrations, I think it was much more crowded this year and I was not prepared for it.

Oh MY it was quite crowded. I'd missed a LOT of folks because of the hotel's construction work and shecudling changes on top of that.
I think Dragon COn may have broken their recrod for amount of people.

Congrats to surlie and BurnttheMacaroni for their Masquerade victories! I've seen Wallace and Grommit photos - totally awesome, as always! But does anyone have pics of Ashley as Glinda?
Regards,
M.

kreleia posted: And madhorizons, I'm pretty sure I saw you storming around as Nihilus. I know there were a few there, but from the pics you posted of your in-progress version, I'm quite positive that I passed you several times. Your costume looked great!
Thanks (sorry...didn't see this b4 when i read it)!!
It was the only costume I had save for a "Darth Bandon Lite" that I was wearing to get a break...otherwise, it was 3 days of Nihilus, so ya...chances are you saw me. There were only like 3 of us there anyway.

Thank you all SOO much! Dawn, Kay_Dee, and SisterSola, it was SUCH an honor to meet you all. It made me squee knowing that you guys liked my dress.
Here's one of my favorite pics of us so far
Unfortunatly some bad things happened. Some lady spilled soda on the skirt part of the dress as we waited to go on. And after Masquerade, a petal got caught in the escalator and ripped. Thankfully, it's washable and pretty fixable(i have to take the petal out and replace it).. But it was still kind of like AHHHHH.
It still hasnt hit me that we won something

It was so great to see everyone again! I swear; if it wasn't for the few moments of (in)sanity and fun that I got to spend with y'all DragonCon would just be worthless. Everyone looks sooooo amazing!!!

I had a FANTASTIC time at my first D*C! It was so awesome to meet so many of my costuming friends in person-- kreleia, surlygirlie, Obi-Dawn, StormtrooperPrincess, LuminousBeing, Ferd, CrimsonVision, kellila, and I know that's not everyone, but my brain is still so scrambled! And it was great to spend more time with PadawansGuide and kay_dee and Sister Sola and everyone! HUGS HUGS HUGS to all of you!!!
BTM, I was sorry I never got to see your Glinda and Elphaba costumes close-up. They looked absolutely gorgeous; I was sorry there wasn't a workmanship/construction award for you to win. (Apparently they don't do those kinds of awards in the D*C Masquerade? Boo.)
gofasterstrawberry, HOLY MOLY was your funeral gown amazing. I was one of the judges in the SW costume contest and we were all just in awe of the work you put in! I'm glad I got to see it up close.

Thanks for the photos! Ash - It turned out SOOOOO beautifully and what an amazing accomplishment for your first really complex one! Way to go, Amiga! (Sorry to hear about the mishaps, though! I think we all know how much the first damage hurts after working so hard to create a costume!)

M.

Aww Mirax you are seriously so amazing.
For those of you who dont know, Mirax helped me ALOT through the making of this costume. She gave me some of the best advice and even sent me some goodies.
I started to cry when my petal ripped. Some nice man pulled the part that got stuck out of the escalator and gave me a big hug and said it would all be ok. I was just so upset!
Thank the maker for people with video cameras! Here's our skit!

I was watching it live via D*C TV and both myself & my gf were amazed with the performance. We felt like we were watching Wicked all over again!!!
Whoever is in the Elphaba costume looks just like the woman that did the performance at the Fox during the first tour (non-broadway cast)...simply amazing. I had just gotten over a year of longing for the tour to come back and then *boom* I'm dying to see it again (if you like theater and haven't seen Wicked yet...GO!).

Ashley, I'll say it again: your Glinda costume was beautiful. I'm sooo happy I got to meet you and Jen in person and see your costumes up close.
gofasterstrawberry, your water gown was breathtaking. I got to see it on Saturday night (I was the classic Leia). All the work you put into that velvet is amazing and well worth it!
I missed the MOTF costume deal. What were the results and do we have any pictures floating around from it?
I did get to see luminousbeing's pink diamonds for a minute on Friday night and it was so good! I hope she has pictures to share.
And congrats to Sola for winning in the costume contest on Friday night with her pearly queen. It's gorgeous! And I'm so glad you like the portrait. You are such a fantastic subject to draw.
