Hello In Internet Land,
I am a newbie to the whole costuming world of SW and such but I have already determined that I will become a Jedi but I have hit a snag. I would love to be a Jedi of the Old Republic (KOTOR) but I don't even know where to begin on a costume. I was wondering if anyone here has already done this, has a pattern or something. If so could a fledging youngling be so kind as to get some advice.

First q you need to ask yourself is. How serious you want to do the costume and what is you goal for doing it. If you just want to put it on for halloween or hang out in then cool. But if you want to be more serious about it then you would go a different route. It all depends on these two q's. Cause there are different things to consider when doing costuming. If you are going to go the more serious route, you want to do the research and find out what textiles and fabrics work best. Remember if your doing the serious route you will be in the costume for a longer period of time so you want it to last and hold up for hours of trooping. If you dont want to go the serious route then you can get away with the lesser details. Hope this helps.

I appreciate this info, and to answer your question this is my "Jedi Uniform" that I will be in. Not just for Halloween but for cons and such. A serious outfit if you will.

Well it depends really on what you want. Do you want "generic Jedi" robes (a la Obi-Wan in TPM), or did you want to design them off of a certain KOTOR character (ex. you want something like what Bastilla wears), or did you want something entirely your own?

You first need to come up with what you want. We can help from there. wink

I guess you could say I want the Brown Player Character Jedi Robes from KOTOR. I actually got some screen shots from a new internet friend and here is exactly what I mean.

EDIT: Okay despite the fact that I have done this before I can't seem to get imageshack to work right on linking to the pic I want to show. I have class and got to run but will try to upload a pic a little later today.

First you have to decide if you want to do THIS costume, or one that is just similar.

I recommend breaking the costume down in sections.

Outer Tunic - This is a wrap style tunic and you will not find a pattern for it, you would have to make one yourself or heavily modify a pattern. If you do not sew I do NOT recommend tackling this tunic as a first try. You could always have it made by a seamstress though. The fabric…anything light (Not a heavy wool or anything), maybe something with a little stretch in it. This fabric seems to drape very well. You might not want to use linen though because it wrinkles and the way this drapes, it would wrinkle pretty fast.

Under tunic (Brown) – This costume seems to have two under tunics. The brown one just seems to be a boat-neck shirt. Since all you see is a little bit of the collar, you could use any pattern with a wide neck. It can be sleeveless or have long sleeves, whichever.

Under tunic (White) – This also seems to be a more traditional style shirt than under tunic or dickie, probably in an off-white color and not pure white.

Shoulder piece – Armor of some sort, or just ornamental, probably leather. Or it could be a piece of the tunic and be fabric, kind of hard to tell in the picture.

Pants – khaki color, any work pant that is not pleated will work.

Belt – The pic is too small to get the detail, but I would just go with any Jedi belt. There are a number of places that sell Jedi style belts, or you could make your own (Belts are not difficult and if you are going to make your own costume a belt is a good place to start). If you have trouble finding belts for sale or materials to make your own let me know I can point you in the right direction.

Bracers and Gloves – You have a bit of leeway with these since you cant see them up close. Gloves are brown, they could be leather or fabric. Bracers, probably leather. These are also very easy to make with a bit of scrap leather.

Boots - Several places sell jedi style boots on the net (I know nothing about making boots…so I couldn’t tell you how to go about that). These boots seem to have a slight twist, another piece of leather that goes around the top of the boot near the knee. If you were doing this costume you may want to have them custom made. If you need resources let me know.

Saber – Unless you can get more up close pics of the saber I would go with any saber that does not have the black grips on it (Cause that’s about the only thing you can tell from the picture). If you need resources for saber makers let me know.

When going off a picture like this you can kind of make the costume your own, because it’s not exactly a high quality image. There also seems to be some kind of high collar around the head, but I cant tell. There are several Jedi costuming sites out there, you may want to consider joining one of them. They often have a lot of resources that can help you out.

I would greatly appreciate the links to the belts sellers and the sellers of the boots thanks. As for the saber I am already looking at either Ultrasabers or an MHS from The Custom Saber Shop. But thanks again for everything.
