I think some of the Armors "made" by my friend is Fiberglass. I'm sure his Clone Armor is Fiberglass and so are the Helmets he's selling us.
Our AT-AT Commander/General Veers Chest armor and Helmet is made from Fiberglass too (he gotten it from overseas) and the comment I heard is that it's heavy, especially since he's a thin guy.

I wish I could start to put together something to become a member as well, however, I can't due to time constraints. My age is there..LOL I'm just in school full-time for my grad degree. Oy! Someday!
Yeah, I'm in the same boat! Majoring in Graphic Design and going for my Associates Degree. I'm also living in the ladies dorm...so that just killed any money I had to mess around with or live off of for that matter... But once I'm outta school and working a well-paying job... 501st, here I come I'd be part of the Golden Gate Brigade since I'm from upper Northern California and a member of the Flagship Eclipse Detachment cause I'll be sporting a new EU Nihilus or Revan costume I've done some research
And all the Troopers here are right about waiting on the official 501st armor. The Mandalorian armor might be your best bet, or something that doesn't require sculpted armor, such as a Sith Lord like Maul or the two Sith I mentioned above. Those kinds of costumes you can grow into And just imagine the tweaking and refinements you might make just to that while waiting for the big 18 By then, you'll be ready
Best of luck!

Royal Guards FTW. The biggest expense is the helmet, but the rest of the costume is incredibly easy.

And cheap if you use not-too-expansive-velvet like Taffeta Velvet for the Outer Cloak and Cheap Cotton for the Inner Robe. My first 2 Outer Cloak cost me only ~SGD18 each in materials but when I get round to getting a new helmet, I'm planning to completely redo my IRG using actual Velvets. And after "molesting" the ROTS one, I feel like using heavy Velvet too for the Outer Cloak.
And one thing about the IRG, it's also a costume you can grown up into unless your gene is really of a small frame person (then again, it can be "solved" using Shoulder Pads etc).

The only talk of a junior 501st in TAG was the one that 501st founder Albin started, it is just something fun for the kids with costumes to join.
Albin has started it:
http://www.albinjohnson.com/501stcadets/
That's great! I know there area a lot of kids who get jealous because their parents are part of 501st or Rebel Legion and they want to be part of a group too
I remember Albin was saying the 501st started out as just a simple web page with photos of guys and gals in their armor that were submitted. Kind of makes me wonder if it looked like the 501st cadets page!

Heehee...I guess so.
By the time I found out about 501st (2001?), the website already have hundreds of members and several Outposts & Garrisons, and each members already have a Profile Page similar to the current one.
Ya, how it had grew through thick and thin, thru scams and problems within certain garrisons or members!

A quick question about the 501st: Can costumes come from the EU? For example, an Heavy Trooper from battlefront?

Sadly not as your first costume. Not sure if all garrisons run this way, but at least with ours, as long as you have a canon costumes first (TK or whatnot), then they'll usually let you add on one of the EU costumes.

Hmmmm....I guess it depend actually which EU Character you want to register; whether it had been approved before and how accurate it is to the original/source.
I'm not aware of any special rule like must have a Canon (Movies) Costume first for the Garrison here except the usual quality, accuracy and age critias apart that is must be a costume/armor that had been approved to be part of the 501st.

If you are going to do Commander Bacara, then I highly suggest that you get in touch with my garrison mate, Kyle. I personally think his Commander Bacara costume is the best out there. He is on the tfn boards as GrumpyDevil.... you can find him at Cloud City Garrison of the 501st or you can go to the Oregon Fanforce board of tfn to find him. He will point you in the right direction.

Well its not neccessarily commander Bacara but just his helmet. The rest I need is what looks like a modified Shoulder pauldron and a 'butt cape'. Other then that its plain phase 2 armor

The "Heavy Trooper" from BFII and Commander Bacara are the same costume, only diffrence is one has the massive rocket launcher.
As itself, no the heavy trooper is not 501st accepted as of yet. You can do Bacara and carry the rocket launcher though, its a trickly slope with EU and whats approved. The very loose rule is 3 seperate references, IE- 1 comic, 1 video game and an action figure, and example would be Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Emailing your local Garrison's membership officer is your best bet to find whats accepted. As far as Having to have a canon costume for membership? No its not required but HIGHLY reconmended, otherwise you'll end up sitting out depending on your garrion and what they typically do anywhere from 60-95% of events. For example, things like the Rose Parade or other LFL events would not be open to you.

Rose parade's a pretty bad example, since that was just a crazy try-out thing anyways...
But yeah, pretty much what he said. Even then, depending on your costume, you might have to sit events out even with canon costumes. Sometimes, event coordinators only want TKs and a Vader, especially a lot of LFL events. Some are open for all, some are only OT costumes, some are only snowtroopers (what? Our garrison just had an event where they only wanted snowtroopers), so really it just depends.
Best way around that? Multiple costumes.
