Unlike FIDM's "Dressing the Galaxy", photography is not allowed. So if you go with the idea of getting costume details, take your notebook.

A couple years ago I benefited from the notes and sketches a friend made of the Harry Potter GOF costumes....particularly McGonnagal's Yule Ball gown.

*ears attentively pricked up, pokes her head into the thread with an intrigued air* Hmmmm, well, I must say I'm quite glad now that I did happen to click on this thread and have a looksee, because I'm wondering if maybe it could actually turn out to be quite the foruitous little happenstance after all - especially in hearing that apparently....there will be some OOTP costumes on display at this FIDM exhibit? Ooooohhhh, *most* neato to be sure, and certainly you can count me as one of the downright green-eyed jealous ones that I won't be able to check out for myself what sounds like quite the fabulous little costume collection and dazzling display in any case....aaahhhh, yes, if *only*, and for that matter, too, why is it that *we* can't ever enjoy here anything even remotely this sheerly cool and no dount quite the great treat and very usefully informative experience besides? Why, then, must we apparently always be deprived and left wanting? Oh, I ask you. wink *wistfully yearning expression*
Aaahhhhh, but still, then, the point - and this actually is what caught my attention and my fancy most of all, too, soon as you mentioned it, and hopefully this might even potentially bode very well too, who knows - it's the fact that, well, indeed I not only take it that there will apparently be a fine little limited collection of some of the HP costumes, all well and good to be sure, but I'm especially quite taken with it upon hearing that....they'll have at least one of Tonks' costumes there on display, I take it, and admittedly I couldn't quite tell for sure from the exhibit mention - but please, oh, *please* tell me that this means it'll be her full-on Ministry battle costume, because I've always been quite enamoured with that one, for starters (and honestly, now, isn't Tonks simply like *the* purely coolest witch around? grin *tee hee*) - but what's more, though, it actually is one that I do definitely have my eye on putting together for the DH movie release....
So naturally, then, and of course if this is in fact the costume of hers they'll have up on full and ever-so-pretty display there too, no doubt, then naturally I really would be tremendously grateful and hugely appreciative for *any* insights, helpful hints, info or further useful details on that one - even though I know, ye-es, alack-and-alas no pics are allowed there at the exhibit, totally understandable and justifiable on the one hand, to be sure....yet on the *other*, well....agh, curses and drat, says I. wink Still, though, yes - *anything* that can perchance be gleaned about this one costume of hers, then, absolutely I'd love to have it and would of course be forevermore, down-on-bended-knee grateful and all that. happy And, well, hey - come to think of it, too, whilst admittedly the Tonks Ministry battle costume in particular would obviously be my first-and-foremost main priority, well....I suppose too that I'd also be quite curious enough about the Sirius costume they'll apparently have on hand....
....and, well, heck, maybe even the Lucius Malfoy one too, come to think of it, I'd probably be curious enough to hear something of it even though it's the Tonks one which would naturally be the big thing by my reckoning.... *wry smile* ....for after all, well, hey - there also seems no doubt that Lucius' whole look at the time is also possessed of a certain intriguing and stylish quality, very distinctive for sure and certain....and were it not perchance for my distinct inclination Tonks-wards, then, maybe I would have my eye rather more on something of the Lucius look after all....either that or Bellatrix I suppose....aaahhhh, yes, what a delightful nutter indeed. happy Oh, choices, always these choices to have to make....
Dawn.

We-ell, now, all the same, thanks ever-so-much for that, to be sure....'tis very muchly appreciated indeed, and well, heck, maybe in the meantime I can just cross my fingers and toes and such in expectant hope and keen anticipation enough....that it will indeed prove to be the Tonks Ministry battle one after all, because even though, oh, I'll certainly grant it that I do get a huge kick out of her rather unorthodox sense of style in general (she seems like a bit of a rocker-chick witch in a strange yet very appealing way, doesn't she? happy ) - definitely not so much like anyone else's, then, put it that way, and so naturally maybe one of her other cobbled-together-style outfits might prove easier to finagle or figure out at first glance, *still* though there is just that certain especial something about the style of her Ministry outfit which makes it my true fave most of all....long coat, silver bodice-thing, boots too, the whole lot of it really....

I suppose, then, that it just has a certain eye-catching and uniquely, quite charmingly distinctive look to it which is surely pretty well impossible to miss, and surely too most folks would be able to figure it out on sight....at least as something admittedly not the least bit of the Muggle persuasion, anyway, if you take my meaning. Ahem. happy And, well, hey - certainly if it does turn out that it's her Ministry garb they do have on hand there, well, so much the better obviously, but naturally I do still have that certain lingering curiosity about Lucius' look as well, just can't shake that, evidently....notwithstanding even him being such a baddie, darn it, I *am* still intrigued and rather curious just the same....aahhhhhh, it figures, eh? wink

Ooooh, I wish I could go to LA this month. I will have to check this out in March.

I had a feeling the green dress from Atonement would be on display. It was stunning!

Darn, why can't they just put a student robe on display at FIDM. I want to see the real ones in person - as boring as they are.

I only got to really do detail on four outfits: Mrs. Lovett, Nymphadora Tonks, Sirius Black, and Lord Voldemort. JainaMSolo spent all day with Tristan and Yvaine's costumes from Stardust, so you'll have to bug her for details. tongue

Here's my stuff, anyways:

Big note: I can't draw. So please bear with them, and just ask me if you have any questions. tongue

*snaps fingers with all due emphasis, enthusiasm and vigor* Aaahhhh, yes, that's it, that's just the thing precisely I daresay, and hopefully I'll have the chance to look at these neato and clearly *very* informative and most handy wee sketches and all the requisite info rather more thoroughly and at my leisure too, but at least for the time being and with even but the merest of quick and cursory glances, well - what can I perhaps say except thank you, thank you *so* very much for making such an effort and being so thorough-like and detail-oriented and all, for it's *very* muchly appreciated and I'd imagine as it'll only end up proving *verrrrrry* helpful indeed. grin Total kudos and sincerest graititude then, indeed, and no mistake....

Upping this again with a bit of a question or further wondering-ment as I continue to muse over that already *verrrrrry* helpful and quite wonderfully informative info and bit o' sketch-age from the exhibit, and thanks sincerely be for that again, by the way, and naturally I've been keeping that very well and immediately in mind as I've been pondering fabric choices and the like....yet what I am in particular wondering just now, though - curious, how I'm only ever more reminded of it after watching something like the "Trailing Tonks" featurette on the OOTP DVD, eh? wink grin - it simply is, then....whether there are any thoughts or suggestions as to a potential pattern out there one actually could use - at least for Tonks' dark-maroon or wine-coloured snakeskin-leather-looking coat, at any rate....? I'd been just idly nosing through a pattern book meself and thought I'd potentially spotted one or two viable enough ones....

....but of course, now, if there is actually one in particular out there - like from Simplicity, McCalls, whatever else - which could in fact be used as at least a base for this evidently 'round ankle-length coat of hers, well....so much the better then, evidently, and at the very least I just figured it couldn't hurt to have somewheres specific I should be looking and thus hopefully concentrating my efforts. happy Thanks ever so in advance, to be sure, and indeed ye-es....you know that whole thing about - forevermore sincerely grateful, very muchly appreciative, yada yada yada.... happy *chuckling warmly, gladly*

Dawn.
