Sewing Machine trouble: US to UK voltage
Hi,
I used to be quite an active sewer (and active reader of this forum) but I've been on a hiatus for the past couple of years. Just recently I inherited my mom's sewing machine, a Pfaff 1035. It's American and quite old, so it doesn't have a voltage switch on the back, like the new ones. The problem is I live in the UK now, and the voltage is different. I've got it sort of working with a voltage convertor, but it over heats when used for any length of time. I was wondering if anyone knows if getting a different foot pedal with a UK plug on it would solve the problem or if there were any other solutions.
Thanks ahead of time.

Your best bet would be to locate a sewing machine repair shop over there, and ask them. With voltages being so different, it could just be that the machine isn't going to convert well. But asking people who will know, and might have a solution, is really what's needed. Good luck.

Another consideration would be seeing about swapping out motors in the machine.

Thanks for the advice! I went to an electronics store (there aren't any sewing machine stores where I live) and they suggested I buy a more powerful transformer, which seems to have done the trick. Apparently the sewing machine was pulling a lot more Watts than my transformer could handle.
