I am short so I am looking to do a Jawa costume. Has anyone else done this one? Any tips, ideas or pictures would be great.

All kinds of good info can be found at The Krayt Clan.

I'll try to post some pics as I finish up my kids's jawa costumes. Good luck with yours.

Thanks. I have been having trouble finding anything on the net that is real useful to me but I do not think I have come across that site.

I can't get to anything about the Jawa without being a member and this will be first costume. Do you know what the checklist says?

Did you check the Forum?
http://www.kraytclan.com/forum/

Usually, you can just be a member of the Forum first as you do your costume/armor. When you gain 501st (or RL) Status, you'll gain access to more private sections like Merchandise, Detachment Discussion etc

Anyhow, gotten this from the Forum Section about Jawas:

Costume Standards for Jawas

- All items must be weathered, dirtied, and/or tattered to simulate aging in a desert environment.
Authenticity to the look in the movies is of utmost importance.

A. Headgear
1. Face and neck must be completely concealed within a black mask.
2. Two eye cylinders with yellow reflective or lit-up features.

B. Robe
- A hooded, long-sleeved robe made of a textured, dark brown-colored fabric of similar design to that in the movies.

C. Hands and Arms
1. Dark brown colored cloth or leather gloves.
2. Dark brown sleeves must be worn if skin is visible between gloves and robe.

D. Footwear
1. Boots or shoes covered with dark brown cloth wrappings.
2. Should not be very visible below robe.

E. Bandoliers
1. At least one bandolier must be worn across the chest or around the waist.
2. Multiple bandoliers may be worn.
3. Must be Swedish, British 1903 pattern, or cloth of WW2 era design and matching the style used in the movies.

Optional Items
1. Ion blaster- of similar design to the style used in Episode 4.
2. Tools- any item which would be used to work on droids
or machinery.
3. Droid parts/machinery
4. Hip pouch or holster for blaster
5. Black hair or fur may be present on gloves

Does anyone know what kind of fabric was used in the movies? Or what fabric would be the most accurate?

I'll see if I can release the photo I have of the fabric of the Jawa Outfit taken when it was here a few years ago. wink

Anyhow, it's pretty textured and seems thick so as Madhorizons said, Monk's Cloth will do the job.

Personally, I think you might be able to use thick Linen (or a better a blend with Cotton or Wool) tho' might need to wash it several times to soften it.

I would love to go to a con and see a bunch of kids (or little people) dressed up as Jawas running around like Jawas do. That would be hilarious!

Heh, that bright flash kind of ruins the illusion, since you can see through the black fabric covering their faces. tongue

This is how one of the original costume's materials looks like:

The color is suppose to be darker

Great! Thank you I think I have a good idea on the fabric I want to use now, but what about the bandolier? I have looked at a few military sites online, but I am not getting very far with that. Anyone know somewhere good?

Looks like a 3-1 twill, probably wool or a wool blend.
