Anyone know a good source for styrofoam? I need big blocks of it, at least 12"x12"x12". The only place I've found with large-ish blocks of styro is JoAnns. They've got 12"x12"x18" for $6. But the bigger the better. I'm gonna be carving a speeder bike. I've done stuff like this before, where I carve out smooth curves and stuff, so I think I'll be able to fake my way through it. I've been working on my blueprints, checking and rechecking my measurements (though they're not finished yet so if someone has measurements they'd be willing to share. . . whistling wink ), and I'm ready to start making construction plans and gathering materials.
Thanks!

Man, after all the work I've done to find foam...I feel like an expert. The biggest and cheapest place to find EPS (expanded polystyrene foam) is Universal Foam. Don't use the little online calculator they have because at larger sizes it doesn't accurately reflect the price.

Re-reading your post the size you need isn't really that big. I was recently looking for 9ft by 7ft by 3ft which everyone says they have to do in 2 blocks.
The size you need is fairly small and easily done by Universal or someone else. Also remember that foam like that can be glued together and look seamless with some painting. Also remember that while you can cut EPS with a hot wire, that releases toxic gas in small doses...not saying you cant use a wire, just be careful or use an electric knife.

Probably more response than you needed happy

Another good source is in Canada at Criteria Systems.

Have fun. Cant wait to see the speeder.

Yes! Thank you. Hopefully I can get started a bit later this summer. Just have to finish all of my measurements. I'll be sure to document my progress! dancing I'm pretty excited.

One more thing: How dense should it be? That Universal site has 1 lb, 1.5 lb, and 2 lb. I don't realy know what that means. . .
