This is a bit of a rant, but it's costume-y.
I'm getting things ready for Denvention next week and this is the first time I've have to Fed-Ex costumes to a Worldcon. Why? Delta Airlines is going to be charging $50 (!!!) for a second checked bag.
I'd rather they just raised the ticket prices instead of nickel and diming us with fees.
And I don't have a choice on airlines. There are only 2 airlines that come to the town where I live, and they just merged. And no trains come to this town. And I'm not taking a bus to Denver.
Even if I took no hall costumes at all (and what's the fun of that?) I'd still have to ship my masquerade costumes because I still have to take, y'know, clothes to wear. So, I'll ship the hall costumes and take the masquerade costume with me, so I can keep working on it until I leave.
Now back to sewing and gluing......

Follow up on this issue.....
The last time I shipped anything Fed-Ex was a short distance to a hub city. Long distance...........yow. It's far cheaper to pay the airline the extra $50 for the extra bag. Or rather, extra $100 for both ways. Yeesh. An extra expense that I had no warning for last Jan when I was making reservations last January
Yet............ it's likely not nearly as bad a hit that people who are driving to the con are taking.
For all my future costumes I'm going to be checking the weight.
EDIT: I was going to edit my first post, but the edit function wasn't there. This message has an edit function, but with (88 minutes left) next to it. I guess there is a time limit on editing messages? Interesting. I haven't noticed that before.

IIRC, the editing function can be set to different lengths of times and some forums don't have them at all. It's a forum by forum thing.
The extra cost for your second checked bag is a hefty one. Seems like we're all getting hit with extra costs these days. But at least you know you'll have a fun time in your pricey to ship costumes.

The edit timeout on this board is 90 minutes, as you may have guessed
Edit: Well, actually, although in my edit mode here there is a line that says "Edit Time limit: this board allows users 90 minutes to edit a message", just after I posted it the first time it said I only have 78 minutes left.
So only 80 minutes? Maybe there's a glitch happening.
