Fabric recommendations?

Hey peoples.
I'm thinnking about doing a Grand Admiral's uniform and signing up with the 501st, but the gabardine fabric that most reccomend is a bit pricey in my neck of the woods. I was wonndering if anyone has something a bit more budget-frienndly that they would suggest as an alternative?
Onne option I was looking at was white poplin, which is a 65/35 polycotton blend. Has anyone tried it for themselves?

Poplin or Tetra-Cotton here in Singapore are occasionally used for lining or even Banners; I do for my Harry Potter School Robes. But I must confess that a slightly thicker version of it is used for White School Shirts and even Pinafore here.
Anyhow, may I recommend Cotton Drill instead if cost is is an issue and luck isn't to allow you to find a cheap fabric enough for your need in the Remnant Bin? I think some of the fan Imperial Officer's are made from that material. The only downside is that is need a good ironing to get the smart look. Remember to wash it at least once first before making into costume, especially colored kind as in hot water (usually European Drum Type Washing Machine), it will run.
Or use Polyester Suiting. Relatively cheap, dun wrinkled easily and at some places easily found. It's being used mostly for Military/Uniform Pants or even Blazer.
Either way, be sure to have it Lined to both give it thickness, body and partially help to absorb sweat when needed.
Personally for me, I am planning to use this Polyester Viscose Blend Fabric that the Fabric Shops/Wholeseller here called Japanese Uniform Fabric. One reason is its "wide" range of colors so a good chance to find the Olive-Grey Color I want for the Navy Uniform.

Even some denim can look pretty decent. But I was try a cotton gabardine or cotton twill. They seem to look like they are a good solid match for any officer's uniform. That is what my black officer's uniform is made of. Of course follow the other advice, as it is extremely sound. You want to be sure that you have shrunk your material before you cut out the patterned pieces for assembly. The last thing you want is to have this uniform shrink on you after the first wash and not be able to put it on.

Hi Klimt,
I'd suggest a natural/synthetic belend, like a cotten/ lycra, or a natural/nnatural blend like wool/silk. Suiting is generally thicker than some fabrics so it'll drap well and not wrinkle too badly.
gaberdine is exspensive but is worth it if you line it with a sweat wisking fabric, like some lining silks.
