I was thinking about just making the dome "head" of an R2 unit to attach to the trunk of my car. Has anyone else made one, or even something a little more involved? I don't really want to cut the trunk lid to insert a full model, because I don't know what else would be affected and I really need that trunk space for my job. I could really use some advice on what to make it from and how to attach it to the car, that would prevent too much damage from being done to it.

I think I've seen a few on photos at cons, but I haven't any on me.

All you would need to do is get an R2 dome (make it look like Obi-Wan's R4 in his jedi Starfighter) and just attach that. the domes are easy enough to come by. And they price range varies, depending on what materials you are using.

I was going to link to Shawn's H-Wing, but Lars beat me to it.
R2 on the H-Wing is wired so that he actually turns, spins, lights up, and talks.
