I was wondering if any of you know a good method to make a dual lightsaber that can be disconnected at the center, quickly, to be two single lightsabers. An example of this is the one Ryan used against Brandon. Any suggestions would be nice.

People have been trying to figure that out for years.
I don't know of anyone who has come up with the perfect solution yet.

Hapajedi has a saber similiar to that. The hilt uses the connector from "converta-chucks" (a metal fighting stick that seperates into nunchaku). He kept the chain in his version but removing the chain and then mounting the parts into a saber hilt should work. Here's a pic of Hapa's saber hilt.
The easiest way would be using a regular bolt mounted in one hilt and a nut in the other. If both are well secured and the bolt is thick enough, it might be a good method. Getting them to be in secure might be difficult though.
One could also drill their own hole in solid metal and then tap (thread) it instead of using a nut. However most custom saber hilts are made from aluminum and aluminum is soft. Not the best material for something that will be connected and seperated many times. Do that too often and the threads will wear out.
There are other methods for connecting things together, some better than others. I'm sure you'll figure something out.

I've been racking my brain for something like that for years! I always wanted exactly what you are referring to, a dual bladed lightsaber that quick disconnects to have two fighting sabers when the occasion calls for it.
I have been trying to figure out how to make it like a quarter-turn disconnect without showing ugly threaded bolts on the end of a lightsaber pommel. I have been trying to come up with a desing that makes both individual hilts look identical.
I suppose you could affix some sort of coupler to the end of one hilt and have the other hilt attach / detach from there... but then that rules out the uniform look of the hilts.
I don't have a good answer, I will most likely settle on the coupler route in lieu of what I would really like. Perhaps, I am wanting the impossible???

Bill, I think I've figured out a way to do it but it requires a spring loading latching system (with a push button release) for certain parts when in staff mode. I still need to design said latching system and see if it's something I can actually make myself. Wish me luck ('cause I'm gonna need it).

Alright, I figured out how to make a hilt detach into two completely identical hilts (identical in every way) and the latching mechanism should work (fingers crossed). The parts should really be machined on CNC equipment to very close tolerances so that the two hilts join perfectly (and are perfectly identical) but I do not have access to CNC equipment (nor the knowledge to use them). I think I can make this all work anyways but I can't guarantee that the hilts will line up 100% when joined.
I'll start on the prototype soon and keep you updated if you like.

That would be great, man. Thanks! Yeah, keep me in the loop. I am definitely interested in seeing what you come up with.

Hi all.
This has been a goal for many people for quite some time. I developed an idea a year or so back, but it didn't get beyond the design phase:
It's two matching pieces, each with a male and female xection that fit together and can be held in place by either a thumbscrew or a spring loaded thumbscrew, which are available commercially. McMaster-Carr sells them.
Here's another idea I had using stock MHS parts from TCSS. It requires one piece be made, which is a simple lathe turned part:

I hope this helps.

I watched the video. That's a very good idea on joining 2 hilts together. Looks like it would be quite sturdy.

I have a few ideas rolling around in my head on this subject as well. Hypothetically they'll work. I don't have the income to be buying random parts at the moment though.
One involves magnets. Definitely not for a saber with electronics.
