I've been working with a program called Pepakura Designer for a while now and I have found that almost anything 3D I can put into this program and make a real model out of it. Most people have done this to make thier Halo and Iron Man armor which if anyone is intrested I have all of these files and will be glad to send you a copy. Now what I am searching for is anything SW or BSG related thats in a 3D CGI format to put into my program and do them the same way. I know of one person who did this for a clone helmet and it turned out pretty good, by what I can tell from the screenshot. If anyone finds SW or BSG 3D files send me a link via PM so I can break them down and get them onto paper to make a real model or armor out of it.
These are the file types that will work.
Wavefront- OBJ
AutoCAD- DXF
Metasequoia- MQO / Some files don't work
3DS Max- 3DS
Lightwave- LWO
STL(Binary format)- STL
Google Earth4- KML, KMZ

So this program makes a model, or you make a model in the program, and you can print the templates out?

What Pepakura Designer does is it takes a 3D file like the ones I've listed breaks the parts of what you want to re-design into pieces and numbers them, then you put the pieces onto paper in 2D print them out on cardstock then cut out the pieces, fold on the lines tape them together and then you have a real model of your 3D picture

My brother did this for Samurai warrior armor. Worked quite well.

I used a template I found on the web to build a C-3PO head.
A problem was that I used too thick cardstock, which in the end did not fold correctly, so the finished head was a little bit asymmetric.
The initial result was of course quite angular. I did reinforce with papier mache on the inside and outside, then i used a rasp on the edges that I wanted to be rounder and then reinforced again. That worked quite well.

Simple enough when I can get 3D images of a part, armor or costume itself I can then put it into my program and make a accurate wearable paper armor set out of the file. As of right now all I have is the clone helmet,Iron Man armor, All the Halo armor. and 1/2 of the Cylon Centurion from the old series that I have searched and found through other sites.

Watch this thread: http://boards.theforce.net/fan_films_fan_audio_scifi_3d_forum/b10015/28609548/p1/?30
There are two guys building a C3P0 as 3D model. If you ask them nicely they may give you the file :P
