First off:
[face_thumbs_up]
Good choice on going with the (one-and-only) Original Dune stillsuit.
That's going to be a helluva project.

I don't specifically remember what the Thumpers looked like, but I seem to recall some kind of long tube with a pistoning action.
I know of a couple of specific plumbing pipes with the proper diameters that could simulate that.

If you can get a couple of good reference pictures, and specific dimensions, I might be able to help.
Other than me, I would recommend asking the geniuses who hang out in the Lightsaber Forums. They find, adapt, or build all kinds of materials (pipes/tubes/etc) to do what they do, and some might even already have reference pics.

*pokes head into thread*

So, I had to drop my costuming habit for a while due to unemployment. But now that I'm a member of the workforce again (and working more overtime than you can shake a stick at), I think it's definitely time to start costuming again. grin My sewing machine will get here in a week! I'm so excited.

Definitely making:
Zayne Carrick (KOTOR Comics)
Giselle's blue dress (Enchanted)

Thinking about:
Belle's ballroom gown
Padme's lake gown
Eowyn's shieldmaiden gown
...and many, many more!

I can hardly wait to start sewing again. dancing

I've been working on "Willie Scott" for a while now, so I thought I'd post some progress pics:
*The Shoes--the heel is a little higher than I'd like, but the price was right (ebay) and they aren't as uncomfortable as they look:
[image=[IMG http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x273/luminousbeing78/100_1969.jpg [/IMG]]
*The gloves--gold and red stretch satin covered in sequin trim (I actually wore then as I sewed the trim on!)
[image=[IMG http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x273/luminousbeing78/100_1968.jpg [/IMG]]
*The dress: about 15% complete. The sleeves have been sequined, but not attached yet. The beaded trim that wraps around the neck and bodice area is not finished yet---it will have to be hand-sewn on later, anyway. Lots to do!!!!

Good news--my can can dress won 1st place in the adult category of the Simplicity costume contest! I used simplicity patterns for the corset and the skirt, and entering it in a contest made me particularly careful in the construction process LOL. It's my first 1st place win, and just the boost I needed to really get to work! Plus, the prize money will come in handy when prepping for D*C...

Wow, that looks really really good! Guess that's a lot of sewing by hand wink

I just completed the front of the peacocktail myself:

It contains 325 feathers so far, and i got to do the backside too. On the photo you can see a clear difference between the fake and real feathers, but in reality it isn't that bad.

Ok, so my resolution to stick to my short list failed when I got my hands on the perfect color of cotton interlock for this costume:

Then I also completed my fiance's 4th Doctor costume:

Neimhaille, you make such a fantastic Daala. Beautiful!

Angmar, that looks beautiful. I may have missed it earlier in this thread, did you say what the final costume is going to look like?

Wow! Fenig, you make a gorgeous Troi! I just love it on you.

Oh, I have found very funny photo. It was my first experience with sewing. I was 12-13 years old, and I have sewed this dress, without suspecting that now with passion I will try to make replica costumes from movies.
Here I a little fuller. Now I am similar Natali, as any another. My doctor said, that I too young and my face will change about 2 years.

sorry I havent posted for a while been busy and quite ill. I have to say that the highlight of 2008 was that one of my original designs won best Star Wars costume at Dragon Con. I was quite proud of that.
Here a pic. This is Darth Maliss I inlaid his name in the tabbards in the sith lettering. The back I pleated the pleather in a chevron design.

Okay, I decided to do this costume around February and only completed in late May for our local License2Play 2009 Event :

Young Athena Sasha from Saint Seiya The Lost Canvas

More can be seen HERE

It's still ~85% Completed as I still need the proper boots (am wearing my Army Combat Boots here), Green Contacts and getting the Staff repaint all-Gold but can hang it up for now.

Next on the list will be Hypnos and Alone from the same series, apart from completing my Biker Scout and Hufflepuff School Robe by end of July....I hope! worried

And I need to get a new Rebel-related costume done by August for the Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention. doh! Need something to wear to troop for awhile with the Malaysian Rebel Legion members who'll be coming down this Aug for the event as Singapore dun have a Rebel Outpost yet.
