Liann: I'm thinking of doing the flame handmaiden for my friend Laura to wear this Halloween to go with my Amidala.....hopefully. She can't figure out what to be but likes that costume so I thought I'd look into it for her. If I'm reading right it sounds like it's easier to start with yellow and then add the orange as opposed to the opposite way.
No worries about the other night. Understandable given the circumstances....a huge mess to say the least.
I appreciate you keeping your eye out for me. I'm buried under dozens of meters of black fabric of one sort or another. One Vader is all cut out and the inner cloak sewn. The Emperor is cut out and partially sewn. Darth Maull is almost all cut out. Yellow will certainly be a refreshing change!

I've found my fabric!!!!! It's a deep winered velvet and costs around $15/meter. Unfortunately I'm broke at the moment but I will get money on Friday and then I will run to the store and hope that they have enough of it. The fabric is maybe one shade too light, but I won't get anything closer for that price, and as long as you don't put a light on it you don't notice it.

Another thing; I have some problems getting the flowing skirt right, my pattern is way too wide so I need to make something of my own. After measuring the width and lenght of all the parts on my 12 inch battle of Naboo Padmé, which is very close to the film, I think I've come up with a way. After some calculating I've come up with that the circumference should be around 3,5 meters, and since the circumference on a semi-circle skirt is 4 meters I will simply make a semi-circle skirt, attach it to the bodice and cut it up in order to create new pattern pieces. What do you think?

Obi Anne.....I don't know if this helps you at all but when researching the Royal Guard costume I read about a site that sells wholesale fabric to the public. The velvet that this person (who I consider a great costumer) suggested to use is $5.99 US a yard with discounts for 5 or more and then again for 10 or more and so on. The one she said to use was the plush triple velvet. You can find it at www.syfabrics.com.
I haven't ordered from these people but given her recommendation I wouldn't hesitate to.....especially not for the price. They also sell swatches. Our 501st group has bunch of significant others that would like Royal Guard costumes so we will be more than likely getting all of our fabric from this site.

Obi-Anne my velvet looks the perfect colour under flourescant lights in any other lighting it looks a lot more red than wine, for the skirt part of mine I used the one from the pattern but with maybe an inch of extra paper on each side and I used four pannels. I'll measure how full mine is tonight.

Well the semi-circle modell worked really well, so I did that and cut it up so I now have to pattern pieces. In total the skirt will be 4 pieces, and it looked really well on the muslin.

Angela, no yellow velvet at fabricland or Marshals, they had orange at marshalls but it wasn't a stretch velvet might be easiest just to buy white and dye the whole thing.

ObiAnne, are you doing full semicircles?
And BFett, have you tried eBay? There have been stretches of time when there is lots of yellow panne available.
Arsinoe, I bought 4 yards of a lavender tencel...it looks greyish in the pics, so here's hoping it'll be neutral enough!
